UFO help needed!

Read what I posted. Then you decide. Bye.
I did, and I wasn't the only one that was surprised at your response, and who questioned your reading comprehension, or whether you'd even read the OP.

If you can't be bothered to actually read what's being said, and respond appropriately then why come to the forums at all?

It's been a bit since I've posted one of my "ask an expert" questions on UFOs here. I'm posting this one as it comes from someone that does NOT think the 2 experiences are of alien crafts. We have a skeptic that has seen 2 really peculiar things.

I'm guessing this all took place in Canada.

Let's help out a fellow "skeptic" with some good suggestions of what's going on in the skies above his cabin!

here's the important part of his question...

that said I have seen two different Ufo's at my cabin. Once alone and once both a friend and I watched the UFO while having a cigar and Scotch. It was three red lights. In the same pattern and varying in intensity. I watch the night sky often and know the difference between an airplane and satellite. This occurred over a large lake. Would it be possible to be the afterburners from airplanes? (even thought here was no sound)

My second sighting was in the same location. A star just appeared and zipped around the sky super fast, disappearing and reappearing. This lasted about the same amount of time 1 minute or so.

......................................................

thanks

Maybe point out that anecdotal evidence isn't worth the paper it isn't printed on and then suggest he invests in a decent camera
;)

Not much information to go on....were the red lights exhibiting non-ballistic motion ?or on a straight trajectory ?

No idea what it is, but I can think of mundane explanations for what it could be.

Three red lights could be Chinese sky lanterns. A star that appears in the sky and zips around disappearing and reappearing could be fireflies or some other bioluminescent bug.

It also occurs to me that it could be multiple objects (meteors? satellites?) that happened to be visible close together in time and apparent location in the sky. This would be a fairly improbable coincidence, but certainly not impossible.

ETA: Sometimes UFO's remain unexplained because there's just not enough information to determine what they were. This in and of itself is not evidence for extraterrestrial craft or other extremely improbable or paranormal events.

Did he see it change direction while it was visible? If not, this sounds like a number of meteors, one after the other.

sadly I get a lot of this. I have a page on my web site called "What to do if you see a UFO". My more common "UFO sighters" keep a little notebook and camera with them at all times now. It's helped solve a LOT of UFO cases. (and by U I mean unidentified).

Three red lights are so common now, but his second one I think is a bit harder to solve. Thanks for sharing though. Problem is without enough information, it's very difficult.

Problem is without enough information, it's very difficult.

...and this is precisely why presenting such cases where there is a definite lack of quality information as a proxy for denying the reality that some UFOs defy mundane explanation is an exercise in futility.

Perhaps you should present or analyse some cases where the quality of information is sufficient to rule out mundane explanations?

And yet still you persist.

I'm sure we'd all like to do that. Why don't you try presenting some in the relevant thread?

I am fascinated by the persistence of the UFO debunkers (such as yourself) in maintaining their belief that the mere statement of unfounded assertions (often in direct contradiction with the evidence) will somehow magically confer veracity on such assertions.

I am fascinated by the persistence of the UFO debunkers...

Not to interrupt but it was brought to me attention that you advocate the term or entity "aliens".

I just wanted to take a moment and suggest that you are most likely incorrect in using the term. 'They' are no more 'alien' to Earth, than we are.

It is NOT likely that we are being constantly visited by inter-stellar beings from another world.

In fact, THE most likely thing is that 'they' are from right here, just from a time history failed to record.

I'd merely like to encourage you to deduce only what we 'know' they are... non-human, E.T., and intelligent.

Beyond that, I think you are making unfounded assumptions, especially in the use of the term "alien". There's simply no evidence that they came from anywhere 'else'...

Sorry for the slight derail.

Carry on citizens.

I don't think I've ever debunked a UFO in my life.

well I will say this questioner is NOT a believer in aliens. He's just "what in the heck was that?" type of person. I get a LOT of "I know aliens aren't real but I saw this weird thing". Often what they want is some suggestions. No hard answers! Just suggestions.

People see weird stuff all the time in the sky. Oddly seasoned amatuer astronomers don't. But that's because they KNOW what "that odd blinking thing" in the sky is.
