Trump's Second Term

:dl:
I got nothing. Total brain fart😂. In my defense I had a job interview today so I guess my thoughts were just elsewhere.

ETA: I meant the Mexican land shark that's invading the US from the south.

I read it as saying that both Nazism and Stalinism are lethal totalitarian philosophies but they are quite different beyond that

Soldiers make the place look better

Trump: "Crime is way down in DC. The reason for it is we have very big, strong, good-looking soldiers standing around, and I think they make the place look better."

I was active in the anti-war movement of the 1960’s. As such, I usually saw the police in a very poor light, as a step towards a “police state”.

But on 9/11, I happened to be in Athens, Greece. The whole situation was fluid and uncertain globally. The Greek people were very supportive, and they were flying their flag at half-staff.

But security was high, especially around the American Embassy. Out and about, seeing police on almost every street corner, usually with machine guns, actually made me feel more secure, not threatened.

NOT saying that having the military on the streets of our capital is justified, nor does it make “the place look better”. It’s totally uncalled for and ominous. Just saying that one’s perception can change, depending on context.

Thomas Massie is a Complete and Total Disaster, we must make sure he loses, BIG!
That bit about Massie having "been totally disloyal to the President of the United States" illustrates what the core problem with Trump is. He just does not, and apparently cannot, get the concept that nobody in the US government owes (much less swears) "loyalty" to the President, and to him personally in that capacity. He doesn't grasp the fundamental idea of a republic being what the name says it is, a state run for and in the name of the people, and seems to really think that being President is something like being a king who is the state (or, at best, like being a CEO who is the company).

Well, yeah. When guys in uniform are standing around with long guns it's usually one of three options:

(on vacation) oh geez. guess this place is more dangerous than I thought.

(after a targeted attack) oh wow. they sent out guys to protect us. nice

(in your home town) I don't see why these guys should need to be here. which makes me pretty damn nervous

Among those who have seen the movie, 99% like it:

The critics' score has gone up to 11%, which means a second critic has written a positive review.

The audience reaction is meaningless, given that only MAGA groupies are watching the movie (according to Axios, the opening weekend audience was 75% white, 72% female, and 72% over 55). The second positive review was from The Epoch TImes

The Jackie O' crowd isn't dead yet. Fawning over glitz paid for with public funds is vanity at its best.
