Trump's Second Term

That's one thing that does worry me when it comes to "peace". Reading through some articles the other day and it basically said that France and the UK, for sure, are going to go far-right when the next elections arrive in their respective countries. Which generally shows a shift throughout that geographical area. Which means any peace in the region might not last all that long.

For the life of me I just don't understand the desire to vote for far right politicians, among the general public. Then again, maybe I'm the odd one out. It certainly appears that country after country is moving more right than they are left. Even Canada is rumored to be looking more conservative.

Even if 'you are nothing without me' is actually true?

Even if it were true. "You are nothing without me" is just that toxic of a statement and clear an indication that the speaker is not to be trusted with power over you when used as it was.

I refuse to believe that. The Constitution is supposed to be a guiding principle. Most people in law do believe that, and the arc of American history has tended towards bending in that direction. The SCOTUS is traditionally the one branch that has usually consistently upheld the Constitution. Not all of the time, of course, especially with more recent Court decisions. But history is almost always two steps forward and one step back. 4 years in the total life of a nation is nothing. I do think that, once this administration is over, there is going to be quite a bit of fall-out for many of those who have broken so many of our laws and who have violated the Constitution in innumberable ways.
Hope springs eternal, after all. I'm not going to hold my breath, though, after the conduct of the Republican Party for far too long. They've long made shielding, aiding, and abetting criminals part of their MO, especially when they think that it will give some cynical benefit to themselves, as was seen with their extreme shielding of Trump.

Rich media owners are invested in the right wing lurch so they can accumulate more wealth they cannot actually spend and propaganda works

Sad, isn't it. You'd think they'd learn from Brexit and the Dump regimes.

There's that.

A bit more fundamentally, though, the draw of the right can generally be summed up as the draw of short-sighted greed and power fantasies, both of which have obvious reasons for their appeal. At a fundamental level, the right is, by definition, about increasing the power of the individual, which necessarily decreases the power of the masses, while the left is about increasing the power of the whole group, which necessarily decreases the power of any particular individual. All of the 7 deadly sins are about ways that the individual prioritizes themselves in short-sighted and unhealthy ways, either way, and that is the base nature of the appeal of the far right.

Experts are claiming TACO has backed down from wanting to Annex Austr-- sorry, Greenland. I'll believe it when I see it. Dump is like the wind, always changing.
