Trump's Second Term

What a surprise..
(Report that a company involved in destroying the East wing for White House ballroom is not getting paid)
As funny as that would be, it may be an incorrect report

Snopes has followed up and found no such claims by the company on x/Twitter or in the news.

The company has taken their website off line though (similar to several other companies who are involved with the ballroom project, due to the backlash)

A pandemic during a Dump presidency? What could go wrong, amirite?
The article makes a pretty strong case that this is almost certainly going to get a lot worse. The shutdown sure as hell isn't helping the situation. Lots of the people who are needed to respond to this are not working, and very little data is being collected.

I think it's not likely to be a pandemic, but there could be some human cases (there were about 70 human cases with one death in the outbreak a year ago), and there are sure to be economic repercussions if they don't get this under control fast.

What continues to baffle me are the people at these events. Like some of the people in the linked video at the American Business Forum in Miami. trump is 'dancing' and many in the crowd are cheering excitedly, taking photos with their phones. ??? Of trump? What, he's 'cool,' he's 'awesome?' They're truly excited to be in his presence? What are they seeing that the rest of us don't? Most people I know consider trump to be, at best, nothing. A jerk, a chronic liar, mentally disordered. Viscous and vindictive. In short, a really lousy person.

Yet a seemingly normal businesswoman at the convention shrieked to friends, "OMG! He's awesome!"

What the actual hell? :boggled:

His approval is all time low. Still above 40%. 4 people of 10 approve of what he's doing. 1 in 10 must adore him.

Yeah, this is the part that I just can't get my head around with the MAGA crowd. Supporting a racist, fascist, totalitarian regime and tearing asunder all of our rights and laws to the service of a charismatic absolute ruler? Sure, I can see that.

But Trump? Trump?!?! That's your guy?

Its even weirder to think that these are not some un-educated rednecks living in the back woods. (The "I voted for Trump because I like to eat lead paint chips" crowd.) These are business people.... you would figure that (on average) they probably have more education, and are more familiar with issues like international trade, so they can see what Trump's tariffs are doing, how prices are actually rising, etc.

Mike still seems to be in denial about yesterday.

Mike Johnson: "After redistricting, we think we'll net a few more seats. A handful. Maybe six to eight. We're in very good position to make history and grow this majority. We have a real record to run on. Mamdani wants to talk about affordability? We love that subject."

He's not in denial, he just doesn't know about yesterday..

You keep thinking that Mike.

Reminds me of that docu on the rise of Hitler where they interviewed two old ladies who went to a Hitler rally when they were young and were totally enthralled. Then they went home and heard the speech on radio. Once removed from the energy of the crowd, all they could hear was an angry man yelling and screaming, and they couldn't understand what they had been so ecstatic about. Maybe it's the same with trumpkins.

Maybe that's at least part of the explanation.

Pelosi retirement needs looking into

Johnson: Former speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement this morning. That's a very important sign that I hope you all will look into. Even the famous San Francisco liberal is not far left enough for the neo marxists.

Well you can see his point, an 85 year old suddenly deciding to retire is certainly suspicious....

Get it all in Mikey; you're gonna be a nobody again in about a year.

Some people just love clowns, especially fat ones.

1) Boko Haram and its offshoots were more active in 2017-2020 than they are now. Why didn't Trump deal with them back then?
2) The Nigerian army, with occasional help from the armies of neighboring countries, has been trying to get rid of Boko Haram and its offshoots for years. The US can't just send in a couple of Ranger battalions for a few months and eliminate them.
3) So far, no one has produced any evidence that Christians are being preferentially targeted. What's left of Boko Haram and its offshoots mainly operate in northeastern Nigeria, which is mostly Muslim. Are we to infer that Trump doesn't consider the deaths of Muslims to be important?
I don't think we have to infer that, I thought Trump and co. had been pretty explicit about that.

yeah i’ve decided there’s much less to the idea that wealth is awarded by smarts and merit than i had initially thought
