Trump's Second Term

Homan: "If the hateful rhetoric continues, there will be bloodshed. People are going to die ... there is going to be more bloodshed unless this hateful rhetoric stops."

Leavitt: "The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals."

<shrug> This is fine.

Can someone explain the vitriol behind the arc? Is it supposed to be a monument to him specifically? I feel like I'm missing context.

It's not clear that any purpose or context exists. It appears simply to be a giant vanity project for Trump to stamp his permanent mark on Washington.

Such monuments always symbolise something, but this one <shrug> goodness knows. Earlier today Trump called the big angel on top "Lady Liberty" which it obviously isn't, so he has no idea what it symbolises. It's just a pastiche of familiar-looking monumenty stuff, cludged together.

Why an arch? What is it a gateway to? Why an angel? Why the eagles on either side? Why that location? No hint there's any symbolic purpose to any of it at all. Just a big thing for the big dog to scent-mark his territory with.

I guess the main symbolic value is that it helps paint the picture of Dump as this bigly powerful dictator. They all build unneccessary vanity projects like this.

FOX: With due respect to the president, the Coast Guard has been very effective with interdictions. But blowing up boats sends a certain type of message

DAINES: That image is a pretty strong deterrent. But when you go into a battle, it's immoral not to go in with use of overwhelming force. Every tool in the toolbox. President Trump is leading with bold decisiveness.

Democrats saying...

Rep. John McGuire: "Even in DC, when the Democrats kept saying, 'Oh, there's no crime here,' there were Democrats who said 'this is the first time ever that my kids are playing in their backyard,' 'I haven't heard a gunshot in 2 weeks,' or 'this is the first time I'm driving down DC with my windows down.'"

Daines on Trump edging toward open military confrontation with Venezuela: "You can't win by only having your defense on the field. You've gotta put your offense on the field. Why is the president taking this decisive action? 100,000 Americans died every year because of drug overdoses."
Thousands of Americans kill themselves with guns and booze too. When does the bombing of Colt and Jack Daniels begin?

Never take a Republican's word for what Democrats are saying.

But according to Trump himself, every sunk Venezualan boat saves 25,000 American lives. With 6 boats sunk*, we shouldn't have another drug-related death for the next year and a half.

*The number varies, but 6 seems like a realistic guess.
