That and the fact that nothing is worse for our fearless leader than just saying he made a mistake, and then fixing it. Mistakes are simultaneously nonexistent and eternal.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested Friday at an federal immigration detention center where he has been protesting its opening this week, a federal prosecutor said.

Alina Habba, interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, said on the social platform X that Baraka committed trespass and ignored warnings from Homeland Security personnel to leave Delaney Hall, an detention facility run by private prison operator GEO Group.

Habba said Baraka had “chosen to disregard the law” and added that he was taken into custody.

Baraka, a Democrat who is running to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy, has embraced the fight with the Trump administration over illegal immigration.

He has aggressively pushed back against the construction and opening of the 1,000-bed detention center, arguing that it should not be allowed to open because of building permit issues.

White House considering suspending habeas corpus, Stephen Miller says.

They are ahead of schedule. I didn't have this happening until the end of the year at the earliest.

Stephen Miller, President Trump's top policy adviser, said Friday the White House is exploring the option of suspending habeas corpus, the constitutional provision that protects from unlawful detainment.

What he's saying: "The Constitution is clear," Miller told reporters outside the White House. "The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus can be suspended in a time of invasion. So, to say that's an option we're actively looking at ... a lot of it depends on whether the courts do the right thing or not."

The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
