Indeed, of a the proposals so far from the Trump administration, this one gets the least argument from me. The prevalence of the "Take a penny, leave a penny" tray at many stores indicates that we already consider a matter of a few cents to be trivial.
I think the problem is that Americans are just weird about their coins. I have a Susan. B. Anthony dollar coin in my desk. That died for practical reasons: it couldn't be easily distinguished from the 25-cent piece. I also have a few of the "golden dollar" coins. They're not widely in circulation either. The American coin purse as presently constituted seems strangely immune to mutation.
I agree, but choosing Sean Curran to run the Secret Service wasn't outrageous either, but that's my opinion. Your mileage may vary of course.
