Trump's Second Term

Well, Trump isn't automatically off the hook for one of his civil cases.

From the New York Times:
Steven Cheung, Mr. Trump’s chief campaign spokesman, who is set to be his White House communications director, said Mr. Trump was re-elected with an “overwhelming mandate,” and he said the American people “demand an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and a swift dismissal of all of the witch hunts, including the Democrat-funded Carroll hoax, which will continue to be appealed.” New York Times article link

I bolded the part about trump's overwhelming mandate. This is the 2024 Big Lie. In 2020 it was that trump actually won the election. This time around he won but is lying about the size of the win. trump beat Harris by 2.2 million votes -- Clinton outpolled trump in 2016 by 2.9 million votes -- and trump got 49.9% of the popular vote. Has he called it the biggest win in history, yet?

The other Big Lie is. that the American people demand a "swift dismissal" of all the charges trump is facing.

We do? :boggled:

Rep. Jeff Van Drew says that he supports Mike Johnson but if Trump tells him not to "that would change my mind," then in the next breath claims "I'm a very independent person."

Video in link

Trump told him he was a very independent person. And he also has his wife's permission to say he isn't henpecked.

The other Big Lie is. that the American people demand a "swift dismissal" of all the charges trump is facing.

We do? :boggled:
I was going to ask Americans here that very question. My impression is they would rather see the law play out fairly.

I suspect Trump has something on Steven Cheung. The poor guy is so deep in the cult that he has become the Baghdad Bob, the Comical Ali, of the Trump White House team.

...I suspect Trump has something on Steven Cheung...

trump probably owes him salary. ;)

I've seen the quotes, "huge landslide victory," "massive mandate of historical proportions," "the American people have spoken resoundingly," etc ad nauseam. Right-wing media broadcasts it and the magamutts eat it up. I've read/heard the interviews with magamutts convinced that 'mr. trump' won a h-u-g-e victory. Blew Kamala Harris outa the water. We are on our way!!!

As Charlie Brown of Peanuts fame would say:

A techbro - "High skilled Indian Immigrant . Investor. I’m a Technopreneur & Engineer . I create jobs and work with young Indian and American grads " - changes his mind and apologizes for having sided with Musk and Ramaswami:

When he writes that he'd "spent these days reflecting deeply on my actions," what he had actually been doing was praising Elon Musk and his attitude to the issue of immigration. I don't know what exactly has made him change his mind, but I guess it may have had something to do with the backlash from the MAGA base and people like Laura Loomer and Steve Bannon. It's possible that MAGA fundamentalists are winning the ideological war over the techbro Republicans. I'm not sure.
Others, like the MAGA-Christian fundamentalist Ezra the Scribe (also on X), are regretting voting for Trump after he sided with Musk and Ramaswamy. But for how long?

Catturd, one of the most fundamentalist of MAGA fundamentalists, still pretends that Trump is on fundamentalist MAGA's side and in opposition to the tech bros. This is how he deals with the cognitive dissonance: by trying to ignore it!
For all the right-wingers talk of lefties doing purity tests and re-education etc... that last tweet looked awfully similar to the kind of confession seen at a Stalinist show trial. Apologizing for having questioned the party line which is apparently a greater sin than the racist opprobrium and death threats heaped upon him when he raised an eyebrow at their behaviour.

Unless there is something I am missing from the between the two tweets. Did he suddenly tweet up a storm of invective and denunciations of his own?

Anyway, looks like a rough ride awaits those who don't get in line.

Yes, you do!
I don't know why democrats (not with a capital d) are so slow to grasp that what the people demand is what the winner of the election decides that they wanted. They voted for him (or her) and thus gave the winner permission to interpret their votes whichever way he pleases once elected.
It's what representative democracy is all about. No more, no less.

It's not a secret. You know that this is how it works. They get to decide. You don't. With your vote you leave decision-making up to them.
You know it even before you vote, and yet you are always disappointed when the winner tells you what you wanted after the election whether you voted for the winner or the loser.
As somebody who voted for the loser this time, you now get to poke fun at people who voted for the winner, FAFO, now that they are beginning to realize that a vote for Trump was a vote for the tech bros, which isn't quite what they imagined. And you also get to pretend that all the things you would have wanted the loser to do if she had won would have been done.

I don't think you are missing anything. The change was pretty abrupt after he had spent a couple of days repeating Musk's and Ramaswamy's arguments against the Bannon-Loomer faction of MAGA.

I guess he just saw the light and realized that the death threats and vile racism was justified after all. I just hope he is truly sorry for objecting to being doxxed and threatened with racially motivated murder. It was his own fault after all for objecting.

I heard that he had been heard to mutter that some Trump supporters were deplorable! After making such a vile and despicable comment he is lucky to not find himself behind bars or in front of a firing squad.

Is he apologizing for the content (calling out the GOP for the racist bigots they are) or apologizing for saying it?
The only people who can't see the GOP is racist and bigoted are racists and bigots.
In principle, they are all racists and bigots, but there are two factions of MAGA racists:
1. The old-fashioned racists, like Bannon and Loomer, who are against brown-skinned foreigners - or just against anybody not of European descent but for the time being focusing on those of them who are foreigners.
2. The tech-bro racists, like Musk, Ramaswamy and Sidharth, who are against entitled American racists who won't let them import the cheap labor they need as cheap labor for their tech companies. (If it weren't for Musk laying off half the staff when he bought Twitter, one could imagine his claim that it was about a lack of manpower.)

It is peculiar that the arguments from the two kinds of racists are pretty similar:
1. The old-fashioned racists, who are mainly focussing on Indians right now, refer to the alleged innate primitive nature or that particular ethnicity: 'they all ◊◊◊◊ and bathe in and drink from the Ganges.' When their racism was still mainly focussed on Arabs, they usually made similar references to Islam.
2. The modern racists, the tech bros, refer to American culture praising the jock over the geek, portraying Americans as a nation of retards, of IQ-deficient entitled losers like Al Bundy. In other words, IQ: The Democratically Purified Racism (Skeptic Report)

Sidharth has FAFOd. It is obvious that he isn't being very specific: 'When I said this, I was wrong because ...'
I think angrysoba is right about the second tweet looking "awfully similar to the kind of confession seen at a Stalinist show trial."
It's the tweet from somebody who hasn't discovered anything wrong with what he wrote. It's the tweet from somebody who now fears the consequences of having been open about what he thinks - and probably still thinks, but ... Like I said: FAFO.

New song from The Dusty Show on YouTube today:
"**** Your Feelings!" (Elon Musk H-1B Visa Parody) Music Video, 2:34 min.
Dusty Smith is usually better than this. I hope he corrects the impression that this country song may give the old-fashioned MAGA racists, i.e. that Musk's H-1B staff are somehow guilty of taking jobs from Americans and not simply used as a cheap tool by techbros like Musk.
Unlike MAGA's old-fashioned racists, Dusty knows the difference, which shines through in the video: the living spaces and work conditions of Musk's H-1B staff. But I don't think the MAGA crowd will notice this. I fear that they will see the song as confirmation of their own bigotry.

It depends on who gets to him first. Learning a little Spanish might be a good idea since he can look forward to being deported to Mexico along with all the other brown-skinned immigrants. At that point, I don't think the distinction between country of origin will be important.

He wants those tax cuts
And he'll get them, but you seem to think that one depends on the other.
That's not how Nazi economics works.
Economy of Nazi Germany (Wikipedia)
During the 1930s, Nazi Germany increased its military spending faster than any other state in peacetime, and the military eventually came to represent the majority of the German economy in the 1940s. This was funded mainly through deficit financing before the war, and the Nazis expected to cover their debt by plundering the wealth of conquered nations during and after the war. Such plunder did occur, but its results fell far short of Nazi expectations.
I think it will take more than conquering Greenland and Panama to make up for it. And forcing the deported immigrants to leave all their possessions behind also won't be enough, unless those deported immigrants are guys like Musk and his techbros.
I can't imagine Trump isn't already envious of Musk's fortune and unhappy with the, albeit generous, contributions he gets from him.
Or he may declare that the debt ceiling is a thing of the past. Along with the national debt.

The tax cuts are contingent on getting agreement to raise said ceiling. A unilateral reduction in tax revenue requires that

I would say it almost requires it. There is another alternative, which I don't think we've seen the last of, which is a budget shortfall solved by cutting programs that actually benefit people, but hey, we just can't afford that any more. So far most of the people who suffer are in the "them" class, not the "us." I don't see it happening right away, but at some point we'll end up with enough potholes in the interstates (they're there already, but we can dodge them most of the time) and broken street lights and months' late tax refunds and social security checks, and loss of the ordinary services that ordinary people ordinarily expect, and we'll all wonder "how did that happen? Who knew?"

@realDonaldTrump

We just won a Historic Landslide and Mandate from the American People, but Senate Democrats are organizing to improperly stall and delay the confirmation process of many of our Great Nominees. They will try all sorts of tricks starting very soon. Republicans must not allow them to do that. We have a Country to run, and many big problems to solve, mostly created by Democrats. REPUBLICANS, BE SMART AND TOUGH!!!

MAGA!

Happy New Year

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump

We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024. ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, 312 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AND THE POPULAR VOTE BY MILLIONS OF VOTERS (Despite large scale voter fraud taking place in numerous states, including California, where votes are ridiculously still being counted, or under review!), ALL WON WITH EASE, CALM, & PROFESSIONALISM. Republicans are being praised for having run a "legendary" campaign! Democrats are being excoriated for their effort, having wasted 2.5 Billion Dollars, much of it unaccounted for, with some being used to illegally buy endorsements ($11,000,000 to Beyoncé, who never even sang a song, $2,000,000 to Oprah for doing next to nothing, and even $500,000 to Reverend AL, a professional con man and instigator, who agreed to "interview" their "star spangled" candidates, Kamala and Joe). We ran a flawless campaign, having spent FAR LESS, with lots of money left over. They ran a very expensive "sinking ship," embracing DOJ & FBI WEAPONIZATION against their political opponent, ME. BUT IT DIDN'T WORK, IT WAS A DISASTER!!! LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN. The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!
