Trump's Second Term

Adding some local context here. The Windsor-Detroit Corridor is an extremely busy trade route with the bottleneck being that only the ambassador bridge connects them across the Detroit river. (There is a tunnel but its for car traffic only). The Gordie Howe bridge project was started about 10 years ago to create a bypass that would ease the choke point.

The $6B project was ENTIRELY funded by Canada and contrary to the orange moron did use significant US steel and US workers in its construction.

Here is what is really going on... The family that owns the ambassador bridge has been trying to tie up the project in court for years, arguing that they have sole right to collect tolls to cross the river and that the new bridge infringes on that right. They also happen to be big trump supporters and have been appealing for him to stop the bridge. So just another routine case of cash'n'carry government.

After the bridge bit...I got nothing.

I do think its hilarious that his knowledge of Canada is so limited that the only threat he can think of revolves around hockey.
Thank you for this insight.

Trump's post is now seen to be entirely rational*, donors want him to put the fix in to potential foreign (Canadian) competitor which threatens their income stream. Acting to support a US business against foreign competition is exactly what Trump was elected to do. Making donations to a politician to get their attention to an issue is exactly the way the US system is designed to work. I imagine Trump will offer Canada the right to own and maintain the bridge in exchange for a US company having the right to collect the tolls.

*Well apart from the bit about Ice Hockey.

Canada, what a pack of bastards!

Also "the first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup."

@realDonald Trump
As everyone knows, the Country of Canada has treated the United States very unfairly for decades. Now, things are turning around for the U.S.A., and FAST! But imagine, Canada is building a massive bridge between Ontario and Michigan.
They own both the Canada and the United States side and, of course, built it with virtually no U.S. content.
President Barack Hussein Obama stupidly gave them a waiver so they could get around the BUY AMERICAN Act, and not use any American products, including our Steel.
Now, the Canadian Government expects me, as President of the United States, to PERMIT them to just "take advantage of America!" What does the United States of America get - Absolutely NOTHING!
Ontario won't even put U.S. spirits, beverages, and other alcoholic products, on their shelves, they are absolutely prohibited from doing so and now, on top of everything else, Prime Minister Carney wants to make a deal with China - which will eat Canada alive.
We'll just get the leftovers! I don't think so.
The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup.
The Tariffs Canada charges us for our Dairy products have, for many years, been unacceptable, putting our Farmers at great financial risk. I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the
United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve.
We will start negotiations, IMMEDIATELY. With all that we have given them, we should own, perhaps, at least one half of this asset. The revenues generated because of the U.S. Market will be astronomical. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
This from the same staffer who posted the Obama ape meme. And just as serious.

Thanks for this. I had heard about the shenanigans over the bridge (maybe an episode of 99 p.i.?) but couldn't remember the story.

I’ve been watching the West Wing for the first time, partly because the real, current White House is so depressing.

There is more honour and dignity in one episode of that fictional series than in the White House for the past year. When the real WH has become synonymous with lies, gaslighting and insults, and displays no inspiration or hope, the US has a lot of recovering to do.

Is Laura Loomer really this stupid, or does she just think her followers are?

It’s kind of ironic how Bad Bunny was dancing on an electrical post at the Super Bowl halftime show. Puerto Rico isn’t exactly known for having reliable electricity. He could have highlighted the electrical grid crisis in PR and done some good with his platform, but he chose degeneracy!

Well, he's probably heard that Canadian's are considered 'nice' people, polite and helpful, but frankly with the time he can have left to live no-one's going to be able to explain what those words mean to him.

not Laura Loomer said:
It’s kind of ironic how Bad Bunny was singing in Spanish at the Super Bowl halftime show. Spanish-speaking US citizens aren't exactly known for being treated respectfully these days. He could have promoted PR culture in the US and done some good with his platform, but he chose... oh, wait. Anyway, thank heavens we didn't watch it, and watched some other guy who sings about wanting to bang teenagers instead.

The one criticism I think of Bad Bunny's half time show which has validity is that it should have had subtitles.
Why?
Well first of all, according to google, only around 18-20% of the US population speaks spanish. That means roughly 4/5ths of the audience did not know what he was singing.

Secondly I (and I suspect there are others) actually consider the lyrics to be a significant component of the musical experience. Yes, lots of people will still enjoy the performance for the rhythm, the stage presentation, etc. but for those of us who attach some importance to the lyrics, we are missing out.

So, Bad Bunny has people waving a bunch of flags. Is that referenced in the lyrics if the song? Is it significant? Was there other parts of the song that we might have found significant or profound, or was it vapid and empty like a typical boy-band song? We certainly would not have known from watching the performance.
