It works on two levels. It is a word I coined in the 18th Century to originally mean a person who was known for his wildly unbelievable exaggerations and boasts; but then, at the request of the medical community, I added a newer meaning in the 20th Century: having a desire for attention which becomes so strong as to be a mental disorder (its roots primarily based on severe emotional difficulties).
