The Truth about RFK Jr

Dr. Steven Novella at Science-based Medicine wrote, "But to dig one level deeper – part of his problem is that he confuses hazard for risk. Medicine functions optimally when it is explicitly founded on a science-based risk vs benefit analysis. For each intervention, what is the net effect on the health outcomes of the patient? What is the benefit of the intervention vs the side effects and other risks? This should make obvious sense. Hazard is the mere potential for harm, without any consideration for the probability of harm. The analogy I favor is the notion of a shark at an aquarium in a tank. That shark is certainly a hazard, but as long as it remains in the tank and you remain outside the tank, the risk is very low. What RFK is doing is the equivalent of not driving to the hospital to be evaluated and potentially treated for an acute life-threatening disease because you are afraid of getting into an accident on the way there."

On January 20, the Trump White House will advise all U.S. water systems to remove fluoride from public water. Fluoride is an industrial waste associated with arthritis, bone fractures, bone cancer, IQ loss, neurodevelopmental disorders, and thyroid disease. President @realDonaldTrump and First Lady @MELANIATRUMP want to Make America Healthy Again.

Every gap-toothed Deliverance hillbilly smiles like a broken picket fence

The sad part is that most people now have a level of dental hygiene that they can probably get by without fluoride in the water anyway. Thus justifying and validating removing it.

It will of course affect poor communities the hardest, as always happens, but they don't give a ◊◊◊◊ about the poors.

He didn't need fluoride to lose IQ.

At Bluesky Ian Weissman wrote, ""Over the last 30 years, I have hospitalized hundreds of children with complications from influenza, RSV, rotavirus and other vaccine- preventable diseases that have now been removed from the CDC schedule. I have never hospitalized a child from a vaccine reaction."

His food pyramid is confusing. Whole grain is on the bottom. Does he understand carbs at all? If you eat carbs, whole grain is the best for its glycemic index and other properties.
The guy kept a dead bear cub and a rotting whale head to experiment with eating...

I don't think he is the foremost authority on the food pyramid.

As part of his discussion of the change in the vaccine schedule, Dr. Zachary Rubin provided a clip of Dr. Oz on Fox (with Megyn Kelly?), who said that there are vaccines against diseases that parents "have never heard of." I have seen this quote elsewhere, but I have not yet found a direct link to it.

To be fair, some MAGA parents have indeed never heard of influenza, rubella, polio, measles, chicken pox, and all the other diseases routinely vaccinated against. For two reasons: first, those diseases had largely been eradicated due to vaccination; and second, they are stunningly uneducated and profoundly stupid people. So they will hear about them fairly soon!

MedPageToday reported, ""Rotavirus circulates, so if you choose not to get a vaccine, you choose the real risk of getting that infection," said Offit, who is a co-inventor of one of the currently used rotavirus vaccines, RotaTeq. "If a significant number of parents make that choice, very quickly you'll see hospitalizations." Before rotavirus vaccination, some 70,000 children each year would end up in the hospital with severe dehydration due to this virus. Now, hospitalizations due to rotavirus have been brought down to virtually zero, Offit said."

They went on to say, "And for all of the Trump administration's comparisons to Denmark's vaccination schedule, Offit noted that Denmark is now considering recommending rotavirus vaccination for all children. "For all our attempts at mimicking Denmark, they're now interested in mimicking us," he added, noting that other countries have followed the U.S. and added vaccines to their schedules, such as the hepatitis B birth dose and the varicella vaccine in the U.K."

MedPageToday also discussed HepA and HepB. "After plunging over the past several decades, hepatitis A and B rates could climb again now that the CDC has removed both vaccines from its list of universally recommended childhood immunizations, public health experts warned. "We're going to start to see diseases that we thought were on the ash heap of history," Saul Karpen, MD, PhD, president of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, told MedPage Today.

They continued, "Hepatitis A, a foodborne viral infection, has followed a similar trajectory. After the vaccine was introduced in 1995, incidence fell by more than 95% from 1996 to 2011, according to HHS data. Subsequent fluctuations were driven largely by foodborne outbreaks; in 2023, there were 1,648 cases and 85 deaths reported. Between 1994 and 2023, routine childhood hepatitis A and B immunization prevented a combined 10 million cases, 1 million hospitalizations, and 91,000 deaths, prior CDC estimates show."
