Cont: The thread for stupidity from GQP politicians who don't have their own thread Part II

Sinema appeared to be in the pocket of Big Pharma IIRC, and Manchin was in the pocket of coal or at least that seemed to be his main priority for his state. He could have been for diversifying and getting his state off of relying on coal jobs but he didn't.

Take away Coal, and you don't have much economy left in West Virginia. I agree we need to move away from fossil fuels, but it's not like we can go cold turkey.
And viversgying the economy of WV is going to be along, long, process.
I can't stand Manchin, but he would not have lasted one terms if he launched a full scal attack on the Coal Industry.
Interesitng that the two most economically unviable states in the Union are the
Two "Civil War" states..Nevada and West Virginia. Nevada was admitted because the Union needed the Silver, West Virginia becuase it "Seceeded from SUcession" when it broke away from Virginia.

Funny how much that resembles the MAGA mindset, does'nt it?

Absolutely. Mark Shields once noted that there are two kinds of politicians: those who are looking for converts and those who are looking for heretics. Sinema is a heretic to the left loonies, just as Mitt Romney is to the Trumptards. Of course if they would bother to examine their voting records it would become glaringly obvious that Sinema slots in as very liberal on a lot of hot-button issues (100% voting record with Planned Parenthood, for example), and Romney really is moderately conservative. For example, the American Conservative Union gave Romney a 56% rating in 2021, while they gave Sinema a 16%. Everybody would agree that Romney's pretty moderate for an American Republican, right? Sinema is well to the left of him.

ETA: This mindset that anybody to the right of me is equivalent to Adolf Hitler always reminded me of this New Yorker cover. We so often only see distinguishing characteristics of things that are very close to us.

I'm sure there is a budget shutdown thread somewhere but this can go here as well.

I got this from another forum:
My Constituents Cannot Afford Rebellious Tantrums, Handle Your Shutdown Act, or the MCCARTHY Shutdown Act for short.

Compromise and moderation are anathema to both the far right and the far left. They really can't see that they are just two sides of the same coin.

At last check, Manchin is part of Big Coal, rather than simply in the pocket of Big Coal. Family coal company, after all.

As for Sinema, it's not just Big Pharma, by a long shot. As for all that attempted bothsiderism -

No, Progressives Didn’t “Make” Sinema Leave the Party
Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema alienated her own voters. Let's not pretend otherwise.

The Independent thing wasn't especially a surprise, honestly, after...

But there’s also the time Sinema stopped Congress from eliminating a tax loophole that served rich financiers. Or her opposition to raising taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations, reining in drug prescription prices, and spending even a fraction of what’s necessary to support the climate—ultimately sinking the Build Back Better agenda. And lest we forget Sinema’s infamous let-them-eat-cake thumbs down to giving working people a $15 minimum wage.

All this while Sinema has enjoyed massive hauls of cash from the pharma industry, payday lenders, and the financial sector. Doesn’t sound so “independent,” does it?

Progressive did not direct any “ire” at Sinema for no reason. Her own actions prompted it. When “solving problems” and “getting things done” is just in favor of the few, it’s only natural that she’ll alienate voters from her own party.

Let's be perfectly clear, it wasn't progressives working to derail the Biden Agenda and prevent getting what needs to get done from actually getting done.

I'll easily grant that neither of the two even remotely deserve to be called "far-right nutjobs." The actual problems with them remain, though.

The difference being that no one on the left is calling Sinema a child-molestering demon and threatening violence against her.

Criticism is part of democracy.
Dehumanizing lies and threats of violence against your political opponents are not.

I watched part of that clown show today. The Republicans used it as a grand standing platform for every stupid grievance you can imagine most of which had zero to do with Hunter Biden. Garland kept remarkably calm during the long rants and looked like he was trying not ask them "WT* are you going on about?"

Does this cartoon sum it up pretty well?

And ,of course, you have the House in a state of total collapse with the GOP waging war with itself.....

Not that up on US politics that much but didn't a former president end the war on "beautiful, clean coal"? Surely there must have been some results by now. Hasn't the economy improved? :boggled: and etc.

Yes, the war on "beautiful, clean coal" ended with the creation of the new cheaper and better healthcare plan now available to all Americans.

Sen Tuberville, who has been holding up hundreds of military promotions, keeps needing to find excuses for why he is having this toddler tantrum. So his most recent complaint is that the Navy was reading poetry. https://www.businessinsider.com/tom...lds-navy-woke-poetry-aircraft-carriers-2023-9

I mean why can’t they be super macho like General Patton….oh wait Patton wrote poetry.

Well, why can’t they read ancient texts about war like the Illead…oh wait that’s a poem.

I really wish the rest of the GOP would grow some semblance of a spine and stop just griping about Tuberville’s tantrum and just give the Florida Coach a swirly and tell him to get on with approving the promotions.

I just love that you can't distinguish between a centrist like Sinema and a far-right nutjob like Lake. I get it; I would probably sound as foolish to you if I were to opine on Irish politics. The thing is, at least I'm sensible enough not to try.

Shows how distorted US politics is that you can think Sinema is a "centrist" or that you think that being a centrist is a good thing.

Over here she would be looked on as a Hermann Kelly or a Ben Gilroy type.
