The Quantum Cosmology Inverse Theory

Btb, Orlando here.....:)

Been scratching my head what Btb stands for. Googled it. Here's what I found:
  • Back To Basics
  • Back To Back
  • By The By
  • Bring That Booty
  • Big Team Battle
  • Be The Bullet
fuelair I'm quite sure in your case it does not stand for Bring That Booty. Is my hypothesis correct? :D

Thats interesting. Here is how I imagine the sequence of events if Einstein emerged onto this forum with his new theory today :

Einstein OP : I have this grand new theory that shows how space and time are completely different to how mainstream science thinks of them... etc... etc...

Forum regulars : Here we go - another crackpot.
Forum regulars : Total nonsense.
Forum regulars : Where is your evidence?
Forum regulars : Please show the mathematics for your theory.

Einstein : OK - here are the mathematics. <many pages of beautiful mathematics follow>

Forum regulars : errrm... actually that looks quite good.
Forum regulars : But its all just waffle - what predictions does your theory make?
.
.
.
.
.

So I don't dismiss you just because your ideas are vague and not precise - but I would suggest you accept that the target is to follow the scientific method - otherwise there is no chance of progress.

Find a mystery that your ideas could explain, or an observation that your ideas could predict a different value for. Then you might get the interest of a future Einstein who might turn the vague ideas into a real theory.

What a refreshingly elegant way to make an argument. Very well done. Post nominated!

Let a "future Einstein" steal your idea? Why?

IMO, no original idea which has any possible merit should ever be presented in an internet forum. Keep it to yourself. There is no upside. If your idea has obvious merit, it will likely be stolen. Either way, you will become a target of every troll in the forum.

Well maybe you think you have some novel insight - but you know you aren't Einstein and can only express your ideas in vague, not very precise ways. Its hard to be Einstein...

I don't think the OP was about to win a nobel prize for the ideas they presented anytime soon - I don't think they were giving up a lot of upside by posting here :).

The upside of posting ideas like this on an internet forum are :

  • You might hope that discussing the ideas with others will either clarify them for you
  • or persuade you to abandon them if the criticism you receive seems valid - thats an upside too
  • or you might learn through the exchange how better to present your ideas
  • or maybe you will persuade some people your ideas are interesting - and they might refine and expand them and eventually be able to present a precise theory that you helped contribute too.
Anyway - I'm not sure I like the image of all the people who think they have discovered some grand theory sitting at home - jealously guarding their secrets against being stolen - with layers of paranoia on top of whatever other issues they might have. Better for them to come here and get them off their chest - seems heathier for them :).

Well, there is no law that says people who think they see the hole card need to sit at home. They could go to a movie or something. Pretty much anything beats coming here to be beaten up by trolls, or, in the absolute best case scenario, have a valid idea stolen by a "future Einstein".

Edited to add: There isn't much danger of missing an opportunity of having any original or non-mainstream idea get anything but short shrift here - usually well-deserved short shrift. So the prospective interlocutor would almost certainly miss out on nothing by simply imagining the near-inevitable short shrift on the way to the movies or horse races, thereby saving time and aggravation.

They would miss out on the education that the near-inevitable short shrift can provide them. People often build a set of ideas in their minds which seem to make sense to them - but when they try to persuade others it is surprising to them that others find holes in their argument that they hadn't thought about. Thats a positive.

And from the point of view of the forum regulars responding to the ideas it can be positive too. At the very least you must sneakily enjoy it - given the number of people here with 4 and 5 digit post counts. ie you love it - or you love to hate it at least :).

Look at the case of the OP. They came here with a grand statement that got predictably short shrift - and seemed to accept the argument that they needed to take a more scientific approach. Regardless of the outcome thats a good thing!

I'm not optimistic that they will return with real science either - but there is value in the attempt anyway. We just have to persuade a few billion more to follow that path and the world will be a better place :).
