Student Loan Forgiveness

Uuuuuummmmmmmm the "free market" has huge failures that are propped up through lies and distortions regarding their outcomes. Thats why we have such a huge problem with debt in this country!! Give me two examples of a failed university propped up by the goverenment, and what it costs.
After reading post 22 by jean, I think I misinterpreted steveas post. Sorry bout that. Thought you were talking about privatizing upper education.

I still disagree with completely privatizing lpans, as stated by francesca above.

When I was doing my first undergrad, there was a program of partial loan remission in Canada that I took advantage of.

The offer was that if the student completed the degree, within a reasonable timeframe (eg: BSc in 5 years) then 25% of the student loan would be paid by the federal government and 25% paid by the province.

It doesn't sound like a lot of money today, but that program saved me $3200 1990 dollars.

$3200 these days still isn't anything to sneeze at.
