Merged rlopez2's thread to discuss recent history

Again, I'm not sure who "the Gringos" are supposed to be, but I think we can all get behind that some amorphous Gringos are indeed "bad." But how bad is bad? Uniquely bad? All Gringos? Is one Gringo Government worse than another? Just because a particular, amorphous Gringo government is bad, does that excuse other non-Gringo Governments? Are we comparing Gringo Governments against non-Gringo Governments? Should we use a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 represents not taking the garbage our and/or leaving the seat up and 10 represents Nazis?

I guess what I'm saying is... is that I'm slightly confused.

Well, one can only go by what is stated.

So far, the Russians are absolutely not "gringos". That our proponent has stated out front.

But what does that include? "Russians" is a term that includes any amount of ethnicities. Does OP mean one, some or all of those ethnicities? I don't know and OP is not saying.

Perhaps OP refers to a particular nationality? Nobody knows and OP is not saying. But for Russia, that would provide a barrel of questions.

We could do this all day long, but guesses are not answers.

If you were to hold my feet to the flames and force me to answer the question at hand, I would guess (and it is no more than a guess) then I would guess Jews, Romans, Catholics, WASPS in no particular order. But nobody can possibly know until Lopez tells us what he really thinks.

Well.
Considering the comparisons he made between the gringo governments and the nazis, I don’t think your scale is quite complete.
If, as you say, a 1 is leaving the seat up/not taking the garbage out and 10 is being a nazi, we can thus reduce the scale somewhat as going from 0 to 1 nazi.
If we also measure the amount of penned up fury in his posts a gringo government should at least be 1 kilonazi.

(With thanks to Richard Burlew for inventing this expanded scale).

Please refrain from personalising your posts and in particular, do not attempt diagnosis by internet.

The influx of gold and silver destroyed their economy.

Absoultely, but still the black hole of endless wars in Europe was a major drain on the Spanish Economy, and ended up eating a lot of the wealth they got from The New World.
But, yeah, Spain totally did not understand what a huge influx of gold and silver could do to an economy if it was not carefully managed.

"Gringo" is unpleasent term in much of Latin America for people from the United States. Does not apply to Canadians or people from Western Europe because there is no history between them and Mexico like there is with the US
Even France gets a pass, despite what the Cinco De Mayo celebrates...

I've heard, probably apocryphally, that the origin of the word "gringo" was due to the Spanish-speaking Mexicans mishearing English colonists sing "Green Grow the Rushes-O".

"Gringo" is a wonderful word to splash all over the innernet. As long as you yell it electronically, you can offend as many people as you want and run no risk at all of getting a punch in the mouth.

Now that's what I call spic courage.

In The standard version of that story it's not English Colonists, but US Soldiers during the Mexican War. No one knows if it's true or not.

ALways liked that T Shirt showing a guy ina serape and sombrero pissing into a bottle labeled Corona and saying "Stupid Gringos".....

Seriously, Mexicans are puzzled by the popularity of Corona in the US, given that in Mexico it's considered to be a mediocre beer at best.

Corona is really nice though.

I'm curious about what the Mexicans think is good beer.

Mexico learned to make barley beer mostly from the Germans. Their tastes don't run to light -- I almost said "lite" -- lagers. So big ass deal. Where I come from, people drink the suds they prefer, and make no scruple for nationality's sake.

To paraphrase St. Paul.

ETA: At our house, we drink Stella Artois summer and winter. Howzzat for lightly effeminate beer, safe for lap children and the helpless aged?

Wife Beater? That's it's nickname here.

I'm not a judgemental person, and it's not like you tried to mix whiskey (the real stuff not that USAian corn crap) with orange juice or something horrific like that.

I really like Tsingtao beer, though. It has become my standard drink in a Chinese Restaurant.
