Merged Peace President invades Venezuela,/U.S. Forces Capture Maduro

Trump says US is in charge of Venezuela.
If that means US troops on the ground...

I'm increasingly convinced it won't mean US troops on the ground. Security will be in the hands of Venezuelan troops.

I'm really unconvinced by those rumours that Machado would be in power now if only she had turned down "Trump's" Nobel peace prize. I think Trump doesn't greatly care who the figurehead is so long as they do as they're told, and if his new business partners, the Venezuelan army, think Rodriguez is the right choice for a smooth transition to their new arrangement, then she gets the job.

The idea that this all hinges on Trump's petulant whims sounds like an assumption that no other interests are involved here, when there's a lot at stake for US oil companies as well as for for Venezuela and its oil customers, like Cuba for example.

Fix up the oil first.
No planning at all

Reporter: Are you going to demand that Delcy Rodriguez allow opposition figures to return or free any political prisoners?

Trump: We haven't gotten to that. Right now, we want to do is fix up the oil

No interest in that crap at all. Just the oil. Stop the country descending into chaos, sure, because that would get in the way of getting the oil. But it's the oil, stupid.

The US military will protect the oil installations of course. They don't care about the rest of it

I disagree with you about American 'boots on the ground ' This isn't over by a long way, it's going to get messy.

Send lawyers, guns and money, the ◊◊◊◊ has hit the fan.

The oil companies were informed about an act of war before it happened, Congress was not.

Reporter: Did you speak with the oil companies before the operation? Did you tip them off?

Trump: Before and after. They want to go in and they’re going to do a great job.

...snip...
Why would Congress be told or consulted?

It's what they voted for

Trump: The voters that voted for me are thrilled. They said, "This is what we voted for."

The GOP leadership are behind him and saying what trump wants them to say -- do they have a choice? -- but the rank-and-file may not be totally on board. As former member of Congress (she's out as of today) Marjorie Taylor Green told NBC's Meet the Press yesterday:
“This is the same Washington playbook that we are so sick and tired of that doesn’t serve the American people, but actually serves the big corporations, the banks and the oil executives.” WNCT TV Greenville NC article link

The Donroe Doctrine...
trump is in so far over his head, it's like having Joe down at the gas station run the US.

Some analysis from the Financial Times:
For the moment, however, the focus will be on whether and how the US can “run” Venezuela — as Trump has promised. In the interests of establishing stability — and getting swift access to the country’s vast oil reserves — the Trump administration is clearly indicating that it intends to do a deal with the remnants of the Maduro regime, rather than supporting the democratic opposition in exile. Financial Times article link

The article also addresses who is next? Colombia? Cuba? Greenland? An invasion of Mexico to eliminate the drug cartels (with or without Mexico's permission)?

Waltz: This is the western hemisphere, this is where we live and we are not going to allow the western hemisphere used as a base of operation for adversaries and competitors and rivals of US

You cannot have the largest oil reserves the world for the control of adversaries

Exactly why the hell does it matter where the oil is? Other than the fact it's not in your country, it's in someone else's.

"This oil is nearby, therefore we are taking it. Greenland is also nearby. So is Cuba. And Canada."

Definitely sounds like Donald is control of Venezuela

Venezuelan Ambassador: Venezuela was the target of an illegitimate attack lacking any legal justification by the US which included the bombing of our territory, the loss of civilian and military lives, and the kidnapping of the president…
