Naked Rambler gaoled again

Maybe your law enforcement is better. In Winnipeg it's illegal to smoke within 15 or 20 feet of a doorway, but everyone ignores that bylaw with impunity.

Neat! Can I get you visit here and harass the bikers who run their motorcycles so loud they can induce hearing damage if you're beside them? From my apartment I can hear these idjits for a quarter mile or more.

I didn't say drinking in public, I said drunk. Two different things.

Overly loud music is one of my huge beefs with modern society. I can't close my ears, but if I see something I don't like I usually have the option of not looking at it. Is that so difficult to do?

1. The fines for smoking in a non smoking area are high. Don't like people doing it , call the authorities, it happens all the time here, much to the chagrin of people in charge from security guard to police officer.

2. Find out the noise bylaws in your city, if their bikes are breaking them, again, call the authorities, get the license plate. More than likely the bikes are well within legal limits, which is fine. This is the equivalent of the naked fellow wearing a speedo, unpleasant, but not illegal.

3. What i said would apply to either. I have been stopped many a time for simply stumbling my way home from my favorite bar.

4. Again, if it is beyond your cities noise bylaws, call the police, if it is a car, get the liscense plate and call the police, if it is a residence , they have no where to go if you file a complaint.

What you seem to be talking about is annoyances within the realm of the law. Bikes that are legally loud, music that is legally annoying you, not anything that is breaking the law, etc. But this isn't a fat man walking around naked, this would be the equivalent of him walking about in a halter top, speedo, stretch pants, daisy dukes, or anything else that i really don't want to see, but is well within his rights to wear.

The problem comes in when it steps over that legal line. Which, in this case is drawn at a very reasonable spot, ( cover up the Johnson.). What sucks for this gent is twofold. One, he is stupid, sorry but committing a crime in front of cops is stupid. And two, his crime is easy to spot. Sneaking a smoke near the back entrance, is probably not going to get seen by either law enforcement, nor anyone else. Walking around naked is.

And to the " closing your ears " comment, really? That was just a lighthearted joke to lighten the mood right? I can't close my eyes while driving, i can't close my eyes while in a small convenience store , ( not to mention a tightly packed store, and having nothing between me and Dick Johnson.) , a fat naked man is not something one can avoid seeing, or unsee. And again, beyond that it is not only illegal, but the law in question is one almost every modern civilized society has stated makes good sense.

I'm no lawyer, but I wonder if there actually is a law anywhere protecting someone's right not to see someone else naked?
So far as I'm aware , laws against "public indecency" simply ban the act of being naked or indecent in public places. The assumption behind that is that "indecency" exists and can be absolutely defined within one society.

In these days of multiculturalism, I don't see how that's possible.

Absolute nudity is one end of the spectrum and might be objectively measurable, but the level of scantiness in clothing which might offend a Wahabbi Muslim might not bother me in the least.
Question is, do we define "indecency" by the views of the most sensitive, the least sensitive, or somewhere in between?

Yes, " Where is the law saying you don't have to see someone else naked" while, there is a law that prevents or segregates this in every civilized country in modern days.

Not a method of argument that is winning me over. It is like saying " Where is the right to not have ones things taken. " , it is a concept that fits within the scope of other concepts, and one that is enforced, and on the books in almost every civilized country.

Just because the words " Right not to see someone naked" are not there, does not mean that there is not a clear framework that says that society values to ability to choose who one sees naked.

...

Iran.
Being seen in less than the required clothing can have the woman killed.
Some loony complains about glimpsing some flesh, she's stoned.

"Police non-emergency. How can I help you?"

"Hi, I want to report two people smoking outside the door at 123 Main Street."

"We'll send someone over when we find the time. How does Tuesday after next sound?"

Okay, you're not opposed to bikers (possibly associated with dangerous gangs) running their horribly loud motorcycles a decibel under the limit and disturbing the peace for everyone in a quarter-mile radius because it falls within the law. Or if it falls outside, get his license number. What? Show me a technology that can capture a license plate on a moving object a quarter mile away through obstacles such as traffic, trees, fences, etc.

It seems to me the distraction to you is seeing the guy naked, not the nakedness itself. So you don't want to see a man's penis. What makes you think I want to see the four inch spikes in people's ears, the nose rings, and the pink mohawk haircuts?

Not every law on the books has a good reason for being there. You not wanting to see a fat naked guy isn't, in my opinion, a good enough reason to make it illegal. And if you think it should be illegal because you don't like it, welcome to the club. Lots of people in society want to see lots of things made illegal. But out society's hysterical squeamishness over a naked body shouldn't be one of those.

Interview in the Guardian:

he admits to experiencing doubts about his stance. "Yeah, of course. I wake up in the morning and think, what the **** am I doing here? But what I'm doing isn't about me. I'm challenging society and it must be challenged because it's wrong."

"Mr Gough is asked every morning if he is willing to get dressed and take part in the daily regime," a spokesman for Perth prison says. "This he refuses. Due to his refusal to wear clothes, we cannot move him around the prison, meaning all services come to him in his cell."

So we're back to the beginning – a 52-year-old man threatening to sacrifice his freedom on a point of principle that, although logically coherent, is also utterly frustrating and has cost him his relationship with his two teenage children. He writes to them without reply.

I do see his point to a degree. Nakedness isn't a big deal. But I am sad that he's fixed on that issue when IMO, there are more important problems in the world, especially if it costs his relationship with family.

If he were to organise a group of naturists perhaps, in a march, I think they might stand more of a chance of changing things than a lone walker or two.

Has he considered moving to Germany? It's not uncommon that when I'm out mountain biking here I come across a group of naked hikers and any lake you can swim in has a nude section. He might like it here.

The problem is that unless the Polis change their approach, or he compromises his principles, he seems unlikely to get out of Scotland.

Okay, I'll admit to enjoying the occasional nude sauna and skinny dip here in Germany. It's not something I'm willing to go to jail to keep doing. On the scale of social justice and human rights issues this one seems a bit trivial.

Naked hikers? Briars, nettles, mosquitos, various other biting insects, poison ivy, poison oak... who the hell wants to hike in the nude?

Oh yeah, Nacktwandern is big here. You see groups of more than a dozen people sometimes around Baden Baden in the Black Forest.

And I bet none of them are under 40... :boxedin:

You do see a lot of older people but there's young people and sometimes families too. I do the saunas occasionally and last summer I was training for a triathlon and did a lot of the swimming workouts at the FKK beach. I usually see a wide range of ages.

I'm sure Ryan air will give him a seat on their place - if they could get us all to strip naked to fly they probably would, less fuel and less security needed!

I don't know what it says about my depravity but when I read your post I read " I usually see a wide range of ages" as " I usually see a wide range of apes" - quite changed the meaning for me!

Apes are far more attractive than your average nudist...

Oddly, I too misread this, but as " wide range of angles".

I feel my subconscious is wierder n'yourn.
