Man arrested for shooting person who tried to steal the man's car

Fortunately, I do not get to make that call. People with a lot more education, training and experience than an opinionated jerk on the internet like me get to make that call.

But that is the fundamental part of democracy there, the average jerk making the decisions on such issues. You choose your lawmakers who make such decisions.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention even though it was incredibly difficult to watch.

Hey he tried to pull up his pants, he totally had it coming, that is why the cop was totally exonerated and back on the job.

I was meaning between various semi auto AR-15 manufacturers not the semi auto AR-15 and its full auto brethren.

Your post was a bit misleading then.

But most of these AR's are not just styled after the M16 but mechanically the same except not select fire.

does kind of give the impression you think they are the same as an M-16.

I'm pretty happy that my post was mostly right, especially since I come from a country where you'll almost never see an AR-15 in the hands of a civilian. They got banned after somebody used an AK-47 style rifle (amongst other weapons) to murder 16 people in an afternoon.

And yet there are tons of guns that are refered to the same regardless of being select fire or not. Mini-14, M-14, ak and so on.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say here. You claimed that the AK-15s available to the public today are "mechanically the same" as the M-16 except for the ability to do full auto in response to my claim that they should properly be called AR-15 style.

Other posters are claiming that they are substantially different to the M-16 in some respects.

You then said you didn't mean the M-16, but the same as each other. I'm quite happy to accept that, but it does make your post about them being the same as the M-16 misleading. That's all.

The operating mechanisms are the same and work exactly the same, there are differences in the trigger group and the parts it interacts with. But differences in such things often do not require totally different names but rather different designations. like the full auto and 3 round burst versions of the M16 are still the m16 even though the trigger groups are pretty different.

So the insistence in that they are totally different is not something you see with other guns that have semi auto and select fire versions marketed under the same name.

A Toyota Carola is a Toyota carola even when it is sold at different trim levels with different engines. Same thing.

Your two sentences contradict each other. Do average jerks make the decisions, or do average jerks choose the lawmakers who make the decisions?

It's the latter. Which is why I will be doing my civic duty in a couple of weeks and voting in a Federal Election to help choose who my local lawmakers will be. They are far more capable and qualified to make such judgements than I am. I will choose those whom I judge to be most capable and qualified to make this and other decisions on my behalf.

The AR-15 sold to civilians is not a military rifle.

It is a sporting rifle. It can only shoot one round at a time. It is made to look like a military rifle.

The safety is a thumb operated lever. It should not be moved to Semi, until ready to shoot. Even if it was in the 'Fire' position, the finger shouldn't be on the trigger until ready to shoot.

This is a case of an unstable, possibly inebriated person, trying to be a tough guy. He should not have a gun, and should be in jail.

No such thing, unless you meant a Toyota Corolla, and if do then you're talking a lot of different models which would be totally considered different cars if it wasn't for the common name.
