Apparently he has not been seen in public in over a month. The North Korean media has been recycling stock footage with new commentary.

Personally I think he is in hiding, undergoing a sex change operation.

(Shrug) - could happen.

One of the strings has come detached, and he is in China having it fixed. Obviously.

He has to be gone. There were these high level talks like a week or two ago.

He'll still be ugly, dumb, fat and vicious..

According to KCNA, he's still getting floral baskets:

Floral Basket to Kim Jong Un from Palestinian President

Floral Basket to Kim Jong Un from Palestinian President

Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- Supreme leader Kim Jong Un received a floral basket from Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, on the occasion of the 69th founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The floral basket was conveyed to an official concerned on Wednesday by Ismail Ahmed Mohamed Hasan, Palestinian ambassador to the DPRK.

So, whatever the truth is, the North Korean news networks seem to be keen to credit him with being still in charge:

Kim Jong Un's Letter Posted on Website of DR Congo

Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- "Young People, Be Vanguard Fighters Unfailingly Faithful to the Party's Revolutionary Cause of Songun", a letter sent by supreme leader Kim Jong Un to those attending the Fourth Conference of Primary Officials of Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League on September 18, Juche 103 (2014), was posted by the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of DR Congo on its website on Sept. 29.

The letter recalled that the Korean youth covered a glorious path, glorifying the annals of the revolution with heroic feats and proud victories under the wise guidance and warm loving care of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.

It also clarified the tasks and ways for the Korean youth to creditably perform their role as the young vanguard of the party in the on-going historical advance.

Maybe he will die soon and we will be treated to another incredibly bizzare state funeral where everyone is competing for the most tears and wails.

I read that one theory is that his sister took over.

Maybe, but I think that Pyongyang watchers need to take a leaf out of SETI-watchers and assume the mundane explanations before the explosive ones.

This article is entitled "In Kim Jong-un’s Absence, Rumors About Him Swirl in North Korea", yet the article does not feature rumours swirling about him in North Korea. There's no evidence that there are any swirling rumours within North Korea at all. The rumours are coming from those who are looking in.

For me, this makes a certain amount of sense:

“Kim Jong-un’s disappearing act over the past month, in the North Korean context, is not an aberration,” said Lee Sung-yoon, a North Korea expert at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. “Such vanishing acts would be most unusual in democracies, but in totalitarian North Korea, Kim is the state. He is free to come and go as he pleases.”

The only thing that appears strange to many people is that it doesn't seem to be Kim Jong un's style to be away from the cameras for so long. Having said that the mundane explanation would be something along the lines of...

Most analysts in South Korea conclude that Mr. Kim has been kept from the cameras since Sept. 3 simply because he is suffering from some ailment.

With so much internal propaganda focused on Mr. Kim, John Delury, a North Korea expert at Yonsei University in Seoul, said that if Mr. Kim had surgery and was recuperating, the North would probably not want to release images of him in a wheelchair. North Korea kept Mr. Kim’s father, Kim Jong-il, out of public view for months after he suffered a stroke in 2008.

As I have pointed out, and the article confirms, there are still plenty of references to Kim Jong un as the "supreme leader" being made in North Korea.

Who knows, maybe tomorrow we will get an answer:

For now, foreign officials and analysts are anxiously waiting for Friday, the anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers’ Party, to see if Mr. Kim will make a public appearance.

Maybe Kim is like Richie on Happy Days, in absentia for the last couple years but referenced each show. It is so appalling what those poor people have to live through. To have a great looking and fully stocked department store in Pyongyang but none for sale. Such a demented manipulation of the foreign press.

He may end up being more like Chuck. He'll just disappear and never be mentioned again.

He's been abducted by aliens.

The supreme leader? Are you mad?

I think what you mean to say is he is fighting aliens and defending the Earth from their extra-terrestrial menace, a bit like when North Korea saved the Earth from a meteorite impact a few years ago.

:D Sorry, of course, that's what I meant!

He's spearheading North Korea's interstellar space program, NOT being probed by aliens. Again, sorry.
