i know that benny hinn is just a fraud a lair and a terrible prophet but im just curious how does he knock ppl down with out touching them:confused::confused: does he just plant actors in the crowd t do it on or is it hypnotism

From my days in church I'd say it's a combination of wishful thinking on the part of person he is knocking down and a desire to feel part of the group.

People know it's expected of them so they do it. As Halfcentaur said, no one wants to look like they're not a believer.

Just like with stage 'hypnosis', people play along because they don't want to be singled out. If you were in front of a crowd of thousands, you would feel that you need to perform the part well. People know what they're supposed to do, so they do it. In other words, I seriously doubt there are many people asking Hinn to heal them that haven't seen him perform before. Even skeptics like us might play along if put in the poistion of the afflicted; we wouldn't want to rock the boat.

Benny Hinn has no particular ability here.

edit - wow similar wording with the above post posted at the same time. Funny.

I recall seeing one video where Hinn waves his coat and a bunch of people fall over. One older man started to fall, then stopped and looked behind him to see what was there, then continued to plop down in the folding chair that was there. He clearly wasn't in any sort of trance or altered state. He was just going along with everybody else.

At the Hinn revival I attended (with a group from CFI LA; I'm not a believer) there were screeners that one had to go through before actually getting on stage with Benny. I have no doubt they were there to make sure only true "falling down" true believers made it to the finale. Also, before Benny appeared there was considerable (< 1 hour) build up that set the right mood.

A good deal of peer pressure and people being dishonest with themselves helps. The same can be said of multi person sightings of Angels and other such childish nonsense.

In my view, religion is pretty much propped up by, indoctrination at an early age, peer pressure and being dishonest with yourself.

The falling over nonsense is an embarrasing inevitability when you chuck a Huckster (church leader, etc) in to the mix

I'd like to see a huge line of people, set up like dominos, close to each other. The first one gets knocked over, and then, hilarity ensues?

Actually some preachers use this technique, tens or hundreds of people are called forward and encouraged to join their lifted hands. Some of them fall, and down go they all. I witnessed this at a Toronto Revival Howard Browne meeting, this movement was best-selling stuff in the faith market some 10 years ago.

I got roped into going to a church service for a friend. I don't recall the name of the sect of Christianity it was, but it involved going up to the alter, or stage; talking in tongues, and thrashing about as if there was serious epilepsy going on.
Frumpy, conservative, middle age house-wives were up there, with their dresses all rucked-up above their panties. It was quite a letting go type thing. i can see the power in that...an outlet for radically incorrect behavior, within the sanctioned walls of wholesomeness and love of God.

I recall being vaguely envious of these outbursts, having grown up Catholic, back when it wasn't groovy. it was a pretty type ship in the cathedral. Mass in Latin; meat on Friday was a mortal sin, etc.

Religious fervor as a means to expressing the illogical?
Seems like everyone needs an outlet from the oppressive chains of rational behavior.

Yeah, its too bad about the exploiters of that need.
yet, the secular relief valves will also take your money.

I hate me when i try to find a little bit of good in everything.
Someone please hammer me.

How about blindfolding the victims to see what happens if they can't see himm?

Funny typo given the guy who you are referring to.

But more to the point, Hinn is running a shakedown operation. Evidence, testing, truth, etc. are all completely irrelevant.

It's a peer pressure: everybody fall from touch so single person start complying with everybody.

"Some thoughts have a certain sound, thought being equivalent to a form. Through sound and motion, you will be able to paralyze nerves, shatter bones, set fires, suffocate an enemy or burst his organs. We will kill until no Harkonnen breathes Arrakeen air."

The microphone is a weirding module. Case closed.

It's a bit more than peer pressure. Failure to be knocked back/down when Benny calls on the spirit of the Lord would be an absolute demonstration of lack of faith. No one at his meetings wants to bear that stigma. Better to fall when you're supposed to and hope salvation comes to you eventually.

That's how religion works.

"Type ship?" It's "tight ship." Consider yourself hammered. :)
