iPad Tips & Apps

I have it installed on a Win7 & an XP machine as well as my Macbook and have not noticed any performance problems. I find it the most convenient way to deal with podcasts and audiobooks, not to mention loading my own movies and e-books without having to purchase from Apple.
I'm not trying to convince you, PhreePhly, I'm not a fanboy either way and everyone can do as they please. I just think people shouldn't be afraid to give it a try. It can always be uninstalled if it doesn't work out.

It runs pretty slow on my old MacBook (not pro), but I figure that's because I've got 15,000 songs on it. As noted, it's a nice, easy way to deal with podcasts and such.

Two iPad2 questions:

How do you move the cursor along to say, the middle of a word?

I can find the backspace button, but where's delete?

Tap and hold, you should get a magnifying lens that shows the cursor. Drag to position the cursor. I'm not sure that works everywhere, probably up to the programmer on any particular app.

I can find the backspace button, but where's delete?
Edit:
The top right key on the virtual keyboard above the return button, looks like a small white x inside a black thing pointing left.
Oops, misread the question. I don't think there is a delete. Just have to position the cursor on the other side and backspace.

Here is one that took me a while to stumble on - double tapping the shift button turns on caps lock. The shift turns blue with a solid white up arrow.

Just found another interesting thing. Put one finger on each side of the virtual keyboard and drag them apart. Ta Da, a split keyboard. Reverse the process to restore.

:) Thanks, Zax!

Ah, I thought Zax found the magical iPad delete!

It doesn't really cause problems in practice.

:) No, apart from me spending ages prodding the poor thing like a grumpy great aunt with a walking stick talking to her relations on Xmas day.

And in case you didn't know...if you hold a letter or symbol on the keyboard related alternatives will pop up.

Example: hold down "e" for a second and you can choose an "ę" or "ê". Hold down "$" and choose "€" or hold down ".com" and you could choose ".org"

As far as a delete button goes...not even found on a standard physical Mac keyboard. Annoying. One of those things that I found Apple has tried to simplify and streamline too much.

You can delete a word easily enough - tap and hold on a word. Choose select and hit backspace. Word gone. For multiple words, expand the selectors to fully encompass the text you wish to delete.

Sure beats 50 gazillion manual backspace taps.

Thanks, peeps.

Cool, thanks!

Yes, and what with the news apps I've got only giving you a few headlines for each subsection of news, I get the impression things are being dumbed-down. I may not sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer in this thread, but I can cope with a fair bit of information. :)
