What I remember is that
DeSantis sent 50 asylum seekers to Martha's Vineyard (which is west of Nantucket) in September 2022, where
the surprised islanders greeted them with humanity and generosity.
I remember this because one of my friends, who lived on Martha's Vineyard at that time, gave me a first-hand account of the islanders rising to the occasion by providing emergency housing, food, and other support for those migrants.
DeSantis also bused migrants to southern states such as Georgia and Tennessee, where they were greeted with considerably less warmth than on Martha's Vineyard.
But
@Trausti probably prefers to obtain his misinformation from right-wing sources, which would explain his belief that Nantucket (an island east of Martha's Vineyard) is "lily-white". In reality,
Nantucket's population is slightly less white than Massachusetts as a whole, more Hispanic (15.6%), less Black (4.2%), considerably less Asian (1.0%), and more mixed (4.5%).
