Bush administration approves religious displays in National Parks, censors historical film
Recent decisions by the National Park Service have approved the display of bible verse plaques at the Grand Canyon; approved the sale of a book containing a "creationist version" of the making of the canyon; and blocked publication of interpretive guides which refute creationism.
Also, at the Lincoln Memorial, per a directive from National Parks Service Deputy Director Donald Murphy, a film showing historical footage of various rallies held there will be censored to remove shots of gay rights and abortion rights rallies - the footage will be replaced by shots of christian groups, anti-abortionists, and pro-war rallies which did not even take place at the memorial. Murphy calls this "more balanced" and says the film as it is implies that Lincoln would approve of gays and abortion.
I find these actions truly appalling and disgusting. I'll be writing my senators and congressmen about it, though I don't know what if anything can be done. Thought some of you here might be interested as well.
