'Russell' is a New York City Republican-turned Democrat who once voted for president donald trump. He blasted trump during a call-in to C-SPAN's Washington Journal broadcast today. He's very concerned trump and vance will get the United States involved in a major war and the results may not be favorable. "We're not the most powerful anymore. We're the nastiest."

During his tirade, Russell said he was born in the same Queens hospital as Trump, and has "never seen such disgusting things that are happening. This is nothing but corruption, and this country is heading down the road to failure. I'm totally disgusted what he's done to farmers and so many people that supported him. It wasn't nasty until it was nasty to them. Then they either doubled down on their denial and convinced themselves "he was just joking", or it dawned on them that Trump has been a nasty mofo from the very beginning...just as his critics had said. Much more of the former, though.
 
There goes Lauren! President vetoed a vastly bipartisan Colorado water infrastructure bill, and Boebert is all upset because the victims of Trump's vindictiveness voted for him. And apparently she wasn't duly aware that Mr. T is casual about paying bills. She's pretty well convinced that it's retaliation for her insistence on opening the Epstein files, which might well be true. A face only a leopard could love!

In the generic Trump Second term thread, someone suggested another reason tor Trump to veto the water bill...

Because Colorado is refusing to release Tina Peters (the Trump supporter arrested under Colorado law for her role in 2020 election shenanigans. (Trump pardoned her but it applies only to national crimes, and the state is refusing to play along.)

Its never been explicitly stated, but it is certainly a possibility.
 
Trump is a bitter vindictive turd with no guard rails who never found a snub or slight he could not retaliate against. But it's all personal for him. So he would not lift a finger to help Tina Peters, beyond what his handlers told him. She didn't even fetch him covfefe.

I think that's why I'm so excited for his presidency to be over. I mean, there are a million reasons why I'm stoked for his presidency to be over; however, when he's out and a Dem POTUS takes over just to rip his name off of everything, tear the plaques down, and all that good stuff, it's going to be magic. He'll have no way to retaliate because he'll have no power anymore. He can't run for POTUS, Congress has no chance of passing laws that will put his name back on the buildings, and he'll just have to watch...powerless.

Anything is possible, but I think the GOP will get their ass kicked pretty hard in the 2028 elections.

I, like others, am just waiting for the GOP to get sick of defending his ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ nonsense, to stand up to him, and to say "he doesn't represent us!" but it's fairly clear that isn't going to happen.

I'm also not convinced that, given his health, he's going to make it too much longer. I want him to make it to 2029 though. Just so I can read his meltdowns as everything he's plastered his name on gets torn down. The pathetic part is that he doesn't understand that if he actually did some good, if he made a real difference, if he genuinely helped this country, and it's people become better, he wouldn't have to worry about it. People would put his name on buildings already.

You may have previously noticed my lack of optimism about the future of my country.
The Dems will certainly win the 2026 elections by any objective standard. They will not be allowed to take control of either house of Congress, by various nefarious methods, including either 5 or 6 Supreme court injustices. Martial law is likely.
If Trump croaks, there may be a power struggle between his family and Peter Thiel, who owns Vance body and soul; but the outcome will be bad in either case.
We're totally ◊◊◊◊◊◊, and I hope I'm wrong.

He doesn't know how to do good, how to make a real difference, how to help this country. His father taught him to cheat, to steal, and to rip off every cent he can from everyone. Roy Cohn taught him to lie, to obfuscate, and to harass people by suing them for the slightest (or no) reason. He is the ultimate sociopath.

I hope you're wrong too. But every day it feels more likely. He will not give up power voluntarily, ang unlike his first term, he has the people around him to make it happen. The military leaders will either support him and crush all opposition, or they will stand aside and do nothing while the nation burns.

All military leaders who might have been in opposition will be long gone.

I don't think the power struggle will be as clear cut as all that. I reckon there'll be at least five more factions looking to take over.

The bad part is, he seems to just run whole-hog based on whoever was most recent. 🤨
