It can get weird with the reserves, but most promotions are automatic from like E1 to E4. But after that, at least in the Army it goes on a point system and they change the numbers needed depending on your job in the Army.

It would be really bad if you were on active duty. I don't know so much about the reserves. I was in the Navy (active duty) for 6 years and left as an E-5. I suspect that rank advancement is slower if you aren't on active duty.

A gentleman I'm acquainted with is director of a small facility administered by a federal government agency. They are subject to all the recent executive orders. Monday they had "to fire" an employee because they were still in probationary status. They said the employee was proving to be an excellent member of their staff, that having to terminate them 'just because' was maddening.

In addition the employee was a disabled veteran, a "sucker and loser" in the words of the top dawg. :(

But did the employee support Trump? If they voted for Harris, then it's not really the leopard eating their face.
 
Did the employee I know of who was fired support Trump? No clue, though my friend isn't in New York, they're in Arizona. I posted that because of the negative comments about the veteran who was fired in the OP. And the nonsense about 'both sides do it.' trump has a well-earned reputation for being incredibly vindictive. This piece of garbage had FBI agents fired because they had been assigned to the classified documents investigation. FBI agents!

I have kind of a hunch the couple referred to in the OP are less worried about 'people calling them up,' and more worried about trump and his lackeys hitting back at them -- teach 'em a lesson! -- in some nefarious way if they are identified. For one thing, the husband is a disabled veteran, which undoubtedly means he's getting some form of government benefits. He doesn't want to lose those, on top of being fired.

And given Trump is trying to get retired military generals' ranks changed he has a legitimate concern. I have no doubts Trump would do everything he could to ruin the man's life.

Reditt has gone down the eschittification toilet. Today they killed off the 'old.reddit.com' site that was the only thing that made reading long comment threads usable. REDDIT JOINS MSN AS A HORRIBLE USER-HOSTILE SITE THAT I WILL NO LONGER VISIT.

Works well on the app. I used to hate it for the nested comments, but I use the app quite a bit now.

I spend a lot of vitriol watching "useful tools" that used to work well becoming crappier and crappier. Reddit removing the 'old.rediit.com' is one such instance.

I've been using the internet and the web since dial-up days back in the mid 1990s (it might have been later; my memory's getting fuzzy.) That's the better part of thirty (twenty?) years. I've seen a lot of good sites die. I've watched greedy corporations take over the web and turn once useful web sites into crap, preferring to chase growth and money over offering a decent site.
