Thanks for proving me correct.
Please do tell us more about the erudite and complex economic views of Team "They're Eating the Pets".
Thanks for proving me correct.
The vast majority voted for Trump courtesy of the letter 'R'. A small proportion did so for other reasons, primarily 'the economy' and secondly 'immigration' according to exit polls. 'The economy' obviously covers a broad range of products, but the price of eggs was often held up as a prime example of how inflation was out of control under Biden. Trump said he would lower the price of 'groceries'. AFAIK he didn't say anything about eggs specifically, but his running mate JD Vance said:-That's a vast oversimplification. I wonder if starting a debate with an oversimplification will lead to enlightening discussion.
I lie. Of course it won't.
The real reason egg prices are so high is the bird flu. One could argue that Biden was at least partly to blame for that, but AFAIK nobody was saying it. The government should be getting a handle on this outbreak. If the price of eggs doesn't doesn't come down under Trump then his administration will be just as much to blame (or more) as Biden/Harris was.Unfortunately, when you look at the prices here, they are way too expensive because of Kamala Harris’ policies. Let’s talk about eggs. … Eggs, when Kamala Harris took office were short of $1.50 a dozen. Now, a dozen eggs will cost you around $4, thanks to Kamala Harris’ inflationary policies
The measured inflation rate which you point to (and which is a gamed statistic, and the real rate is higher than reported) is a derivative of the price increase. But it's the price increase, not the derivative, that people notice. Or in other words, they notice the time integral of the inflation rate. Prices spiked, and people are still suffering because of that increase even if the rate of increase has dropped. This is not irrational, it is in fact the appropriate way to evaluate the effects of inflation. On the broader topic of inflation in general, the commonly held view among Trump supporters was the same, ie. Biden/Harris's inflationary policies led to out of control inflation which Trump's policies will fix. But that perception is based on a falsehood - inflation was not out of control under Biden. It spiked during Covid for obvious reasons (same as it did in every other country in the World), but by 2024 was back down to pre-Covid levels. Problem is many people weren't looking at the overall numbers, they were just pointing at some extreme items like eggs - and of course ignoring things that didn't go up.
You are correct about this. The politics forum is where rational discussion goes to die. From the OP's poll it's clear that this thread was created to scoff at the stupidity of Trump supporters, not to have a rational dicussion.
The politics forum is where rational discussion goes to die.
Trump supporters were TOLD the price of eggs went up some umpty-hundred percent under Biden (not sure how Kamala got involved), even though they barely did, and they believed what they were told.
Then they were told that "only Trump" can bring the price of eggs back down, which he actually can't do, but they believed him nonetheless.
Meanwhile, the price of eggs fluctuated marginally as expected during COVID then settled back again after, during the Trump 1 and Biden years.
So it would be fair to say that, like baseball and football, there is a Fantasy Egg Market game running that is entirely unrelated to reality. Just that MAGA is buying into it like it was.
And when the fantasy doesn't actually turn out to be reality? What then?Yes, but we need to treat their fantasy as reality. This is called “rational discussion”.
That can soon be fixed - declare that there is no such thing as bird flu and get those eggs into the system! What possible harm could come from that?![]()
Shelling out: Egg prices rise nearly 37 percent
Egg prices are up nearly 37 percent, as the highly contagious bird flu devastates U.S. flocks.www.foxbusiness.com
eggs up 37%
I was joking but who knows: https://apnews.com/article/trump-health-communications-cdc-hhs-fda-1eeca64c1ccc324b31b779a86d3999a4That can soon be fixed - declare that there is no such thing as bird flu and get those eggs into the system! What possible harm could come from that?
Such an unfortunate name...
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Dorothy Fink...
They won't even have to do that. Blame the rising prices on bird flu and tell each other that prices would be plummeting thanks to Dump's policies otherwise. That can soon be fixed - declare that there is no such thing as bird flu and get those eggs into the system! What possible harm could come from that?
The reason enlightened discussion over the mindset of right-wingers doesn't happen here isn't because we're big meany liberals. It's because there's no depth to right-winger thinking. It's all reactions and soundbites. We've done this dance over and over. Sartre called your nosnense out almost a century ago. Thanks for proving me correct.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not claiming that right-wing forums are going to be any different than this. But regardless of the reason, the fact remains that thoughtful discussion about politics almost never happens here, and isn't going to happen in this thread. Most people don't want it, or even know how to engage in it, and that's not peculiar to any side of the political spectrum. The reason enlightened discussion over the mindset of right-wingers doesn't happen here isn't because we're big meany liberals.
