Why don't you do such a test yourself? You don't need our help, just a friend to set up a few containers, put bottles in some of them, and then leave you alone to dowse them. You'll find you'll get much more positive responses here if you're prepared to do this and report the results than if you just make claims which you haven't even properly tested yourself.

Don't you want to know if you really do have this power, or are inadvertantly fooling yourself like so many others have before you? Such testing is the only reliable way to find out which is the case.

I have been dowsing for a long time and feel that to be accurate I need to stay humble.

And have you bothered to do a simple self test yet? Or is your conviction that your dowsing is accurate still based solely on anecdotal evidence?
 
Pixel42, when I need to find something I do and that's a good enough test for me. Anyway this is john g. thread so lets hear from him. Tells us your methods please John and how you control your thoughts when you are dowsing. Cheers

(Little tip for generating fake spelling mistakes - Phonetic mistakes generally work far better if you replace a more complex word with a simpler one, rather than the other way around)

It has been clearly explained to you on numerous occasions why that is not a good enough test. Why are so afraid of doing a proper, meaningful test? I can only assume it's because you are afraid that it will prove that you have been fooling yourself all your life.

Actually, we have a very clear and easily tested claim in the OP, that he can differentiate between broken and unbroken buried bottles by dowsing, and just find the unbroken ones:

I would suggest simply burying a number of broken and unbroken bottles, and having John find the unbroken ones. This would enable him to work under precisely the conditions under which he claims success. The only pitfall I can see is that we would have to make sure there were no unbroken bottles already present in the places the broken ones were buried.

I was trying to come up with a simpler protocol that didn't involve burying stuff.
If he said the box protocol wouldn't work because, I don't know, his powers can go through soil but not 3mm of cardboard then fair enough, that's not his claim.

But it would be an easier and quicker test for him and a friend to do as a quick and easy self-test.
It's not like he doesn't already have the bottles. :)

Don't need a million dollars and proof of you abilities, how convenient for you. So you what us to believe you, but you give us only your word as evidence and you wonder why we don’t believe you. This is a skeptic website you know.

I remember dowsers coming up with the excuse that their powers didn't work because the water was at floor level (or higher) rather than below their feet. I think it was in a TV programme featuring Richard Dawkins. They only came up with this after they had failed, of course. Up until then it had been an entirely fair test. ;)

First ... I don't believe anyone ever made that claim, that money is required to invoke your skill.

Second ... If I had a nickel every time I heard someone make that or similar statements, I wouldn't need any money!

Hi John,

I also live in MA and would be very willing to meet you at your convenience to do the most basic test of your abilities. Not for the money, I have precious little of it myself, but just for the chance to show whether or not these abilities exist.

As luck would have it I have property with buried bottles and have dug a few of them myself. Finding the spots where the bottles were discarded 100 years ago is very easy so we would not use those spots. I would dig several new holes and place either broken bottles, whole antique bottles, or no bottles and re-fill the holes with the same soil. Could you tell which were which?
