Merged Christopher Hitchens (1949-2011)

Well be glad you got that much, Quinn. I will be constantly depressed that I never got to meet this genius.

Same for me. Loved him at times, rolled-eyes at him at times. Despised his politics.

On the Yahoo news page there are hundreds of Christian commenters gleefully saying he'll burn in Hell. What a terrific religion. Thankfully a) He would've gotten a kick out of that, and b) such comments are being universally down-voted.

I prefer to think Hitchens is now suffering in Helheim. Or possibly reincarnated as a naked rat mole. That'd serve him right for his Atheism!
Christianity is blamed for a lot of things but being an ********? Nay, they do not have exclusive rights to that. Hitchens could be a magnificentl bung-hole hisself.

RIP CH. You'll be missed.

Bummer, there were too few people like him to begin with, now there's one less... :(

I'll spill some malted liquer in his memory tonight...

Don't know how long the comments will last, but some real classy (and not suprising) comments on The Blaze along with some conservative atheists standing up for Hitch and one or two who aren't doing us any favors.

After reading the 5th "he is in hell" I could not stand it anymore and closed the browser.

What those people are doing is nearly the equivalent of going to the wake of somebody not their faith, and start proselytism...

I didn't agree with him on everything, but I didn't have to. He was an intellectual giant who raised the level of debate.

#godisnotgreat is currently trending on Twitter, and we've already had death threats towards the people who started the hashtag. Classy, christians, classy.

I'm gutted. I was afraid it was going to be soon, but I was still shocked when I read it.

:(

I saw him speak at the NYC public library a few days before his diagnosis. He signed my copy of his memoir. I told him "Thanks for all you've done in highlighting the crimes of the Catholic church in your writing". He replied "oh, you haven't seen anything yet!"

Wish he had more time but he certainly made the most of the time he had.

RIP Hitch.

When he said things I agreed with, he came off as a champion of all truth. When he said things I hated, he came off as an insufferable ass. Well played, sir! We should all strive to be as bold.

This.

One of the few political figures, if not the only, who I always was a fan of. And this regardless of differing opinins. Diligently read his book reviews in The Atlantic. I hate it when they die too young :(

I'll miss his barbed wit. The passion behind his criticisms.

Really cool guy that was enjoyable to read and listen to.

Expected, but still sad. We all die, and he did, but boy did he live.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of an intellectual giant. Mr Hitchens was not one to suffer fools gladly and many a person has felt the lashing of his tongue. That said, his lifestyle was not one that exactly promoted longevity.
Let it be said that he was never, ever, boring!
