Cont: Brexit XII

I have to admit that when I saw "Therese Coffey & rotten meat" posted on Twitter I initially assumed it was a suggestion for Private Eye's "Separated at Birth" feature.

All done - control of our borders - but we didn't mean control of your borders!

...
Rishi Sunak is said to be eyeing up a new deal with the EU to ease the post-Brexit woes of Britons travelling to the bloc after recent chaos at the border.

The prime minister reportedly wants an agreement that would let UK citizens use the EU’s e-gates for passport checks.

..

To be fair who could have thought this would happen? If only we'd been told this during the Brexit campaign!

How about an arrangement where there are no passport gates required. And even no passports required. Wouldn't that be the ultimate solution? Can that happen? Naaaah! Impossible!

I've heard that there is an organisation we can join that allows that to happen and also allows free movement of goods. I've also heard of another organisation that, not only allows that but also gives us a say in what the policies are concerning those goods and a number of other things.

Another great success for Brexit!!!! Britain is being saved from the pernicious influence of European punk.

My last three gigs have been by a Norwegian, French and Polish band. What I have noticed post Brexit is that only larger European bands are still touring. I cannot find Trigger Cut on Spotify and it is the small bands who have disappeared. The bands I have seen have monthly Spotify listens of either 1/4 of a million, or 2.5 million and have been going for 10 years plus.

The shame is that I don't get to go £10 or £20 gigs anymore.

The real problem there is staffing. A recent trip to Iceland, we had to use the non EU route, whereas the previous time we went there, it was the EU route. The queue for both routes, both times was the same, because the Icelanders cleverly had enough staff to cover the busier route, which is the non EU one, which covers all the Americans on stop overs.

The British and French in particular do not seem to be able to get their staffing right. They appear to not realised that when there is a schools holiday, they need more staff.

But that is typical of everything now in the UK, not enough staff.

That seems logical, larger groups would have more resources to handle the bureaucracy.

When it comes to inconvenience a maximum of people, the French are far superior to the British: usual lack of staff + schools holiday = ideal time to go on strike ! ;)

The whole "bonfire of retained EU legislation" is turning into a bit of a farce, with it having been to reduced to a mere 10% of the original estimate (700 pieces of legislation as opposed to 7000), and most of it being either irrelevant or outdated.

Good.

Of more specifically,, I'm glad that even our useless government realised that it's reckless to junk legislation wholesale when you have no idea what it does. I'm not unhappy that they've chosen to do something eye-catching but useless instead.

God, why do so many in the UK try to ignore the fact they are a part of Europe. like it or not?

Exceptionalism and harking back to our days of imperial greatness when we bestrode the world and largely ignored Europe.

edited to add....

Encapsulated by the apocryphal headline from some time in the late 19th or early 20th century - "Fog in Channel, Europe cut off"
