Breaking down telepathy

ETA - And Las Vegas would close. It's an important example.

Yeah, just to be nick-picky, telepathy would only help when you're actually playing another active human. It wouldn't help in the majority of casino games (slots, roulette, craps, blackjack, etc.)

Superconducting Quantum Interface Devices Fishing Monthly?! :boggled: Are we sure about this?
It would seem that my cover is blown... SFM has been promoting Quantum this, that and the other for years and we'd have gotten away with it if wasn't those pesky kids!!!

Yeah, I sort of conflated telekinesis with telepathy. Specifically with blackjack, the dealer checks the hole card in a mirror, so you'd have a pretty significant positive odds advantage if you knew that card by telepathy. A guy can dream.

Excuse me, but that sort of thing is, obviously, mere hobby stuff.

What do you think a telepath could achieve in the stock market? Or any market, for that matter?

Not to mention what CIA would be willing to pay for such services.

ETA: Telepathy is such an obvious evolutionary advantage that if it was possible, most, if not all higher animals would have it. Certainly, it would be abundant among primates. Just think about what it would mean to know a bit in advance when that enemy or predator decided to jump.

Kleonaptra, have you kept accurate track of how many times you were right with telepathy and how many times you were wrong? If you make enough guesses, you'll be right by chance eventually. In order to say it wasn't just that, you'd have to keep track of all your guesses, intuitions, etc.

Thankyou Paul, and yes, Ive thought of that. I already mentioned on this thread that my telepathy would account for only a very small part, the majority can be explained with cold reading, observation/perception and my knowledge of the animal itself. Just because I feel that the animal 'told me' what was wrong, and we go to the vet and they confirm I was completely correct, doesnt mean its telepathy. The animal did tell me, through nuances of its behaviour and its pain response.

Its not something I feel can be measured accurately, and its not just about diagnosis, always on diagnoses there is the immediate treatment and then the ongoing treatment. I have had vets and horse owners tell me I have a knack for knowing what the animal needs to get healthy as quickly as possible, for mediating medical treatment with the animals state of mind and natural healing process. But again, its likely to be a perception of their body language, something calculated in my higher mind that isnt translated directly into my thoughts but never the less points me in the right direction.

Actually I can think of some protocols which might be accepted by JREF, if you're saying that you can telepathically tell when an animal is seeing something like a blue drum which upsets it.

You'd just need to stand near to but out of sight and sound of the animal whilst it's shown a series of objects, and be able to tell when it's the particular object that upsets it significantly more often than would be expected by chance.

I'm not about to start upsetting animals for this. No way. Call it whatever you want, there is no way this can be accurately tested, and Im not going to agree to scare animals in the name of science. Im going to work on the standard Zener card test, using different people and see where it takes me. Im not just going to read the cards from the subject, Im going to try and transmit to the other person as well. There are people I know who will be able to do it but I'd rather recruit some skeptics.

Kleonaptra,

Before I start, I think this should be a separate thread. I don't know if Giza has vanished, but I think you should have your own thread on this subject because I do think you have a testable claim. Whether you choose to apply for one of the many prizes available or instead try to do some self-testing to see how it works is entirely up to you.

Pixel42's protocol is a sound one, but I understand you do not want to upset the animals. That's admirable and as an animal lover I agree that the animal's comfort and well-being should definitely be taken into account. This should in no way be upsetting to the animals who take part in the test.

So, I suggest using the same protocol, but do not use anything that the animal does not like, only things the animal loves. A favorite food, a favorite toy, a favorite person, etc.. You are in another room and the animal is sending thoughts to you about food or persons or toys. That's easy to test. A test like that would qualify (I think) for the MDC. It's cheap and easy to do and should provide excellent results one way or another.

Think about it,
Ward

Haha, I'm still here, just reading through different threads since I'm new to this site. You can keep going with what you're talking about here, I don't mind.

@Kleonaptra,
Does it seem that some animals go out of their way to get your attention in a telepathic manner? Birds seem to capture my attention more, but more likely due to the fact they can get to my position easier than other animals, I haven't been able to be around other types.

That is a good idea, and I will think about it. I didnt intend to get into this discussion, I was trying to chat to Giza and got into a seperate argument, so I agree if I wanted to claim I would surely have started another thread. I'd have to know the animal very well, have worked with it for some time for this to work, and I'm not entirely sure it will work. I think there are too many variables in it for accurate testing. That being said, animals cant 'block' their thoughts like humans can, and their visual images are very simple, but the ability to pick up these images is based strongly on the animals state of mind.

I went through a lot of claims and the primary problem is people claiming before testing themselves. I'd rather use the accepted method of testing telepathy, I dont have zener cards but I have some image cards that will work (ever played magic the gathering? Im going to use a deck of land cards) because the only thing I can claim at the moment is that I believe with training, I can improve my accuracy. Only time will tell, and I dont have a lot of that, but I will work on it.

But how do you distinguish between concluding that it was just chance, and by concluding that you were telepathic - for those small number of times?

Animals that are very close to me. I have a very strong bond with my stallion and more than once I've thought, 'Zayfirs thirsty' gone out to the paddock and the water needs filling. In an Australian summer though, when I know the troughs need to be filled 3 times a day, I dont need telepathy.

I have a question, have you ever saw the (hard to explain) 'avatar' of a person as if you believe they are thinking you? Or just animals, wasn't sure if you were able to with humans as well.

Good. Because if you're just going by feelings rather than careful, methodical examination of the evidence, you're not fit to look after a pot plant.

I did mention my knowledge of the animal in question and perception of its body language. I never said I worked on feeling alone, that was your conclusion.

Ah, the same exact thing happens with my dog. As if it learned to 'think' of water while staring at me, I look at the bowl and it's empty. Maybe the animal has the ability to choose whether to open themselves up for a connection such as that.

I cant say I ever reached a rock hard conclusion that it was telepathy. When diagnosing an animal theres always the big grey area, because you can know the area thats affected, and you can make educated guesses as to whats causing it but actually finding out the exact problem is the tricky part. Often we treat for a broad range to eliminate possibilities, I only said I had a knack for narrowing the range. Since Ive never kept records on every animal and my 'hunches' before we went to the vet, I cant answer your question, Im sorry.
