I suggest that issues concerning the interactions between electricity and magnetism with organic life be debated in a new forum with the title Bioelectromagnetics, so will answer all discussions on this new location.

Roger Coghill

How about using the Science, Mathematics, Medicine, and Technology forum instead of creating a new forum?

I once submitted some plants to intense electromagnetic radiation and in a certain intensity range they grew slightly smaller.

it wasn't a very well controlled experiment tho =)

Well... fine.

I still think that the new thread should go under SMM&T.

They can in Pontypool mate. It's the Brains'.

(Brains is a Welsh Brewery. Their S.A. is well known for shrinking grey matter.)

Is you talking to me, butt? Everybody knows there's no beer of decent quality at all in Scotland. And all Scots are "Loopy as Poolers", as the saying is round here.

In my own experience, I've found that electromagnetic radiation seems to be beneficial to basil plants.

Oh, and high levels of high-frequency radio waves make organic tissues taste better.

Granted. Especially sunlight.:D

(Yes, I know you're taking the mickey. Not sure everyone here will be though.)

Capeldodger- Loopy as a pooler? Explanation?
(By the way, I'm a Felin Foel man meself).

Roger- apologies for thread sidetracking. Did you have something particular in mind with your original post?

Pontypool Rugby Club are known as the Poolers, and have a reputation for almost insane bravery/recklessness. "Loopy as a Pooler" has the sort of palindromic word-play Celtic culture has always been so fond of.

Felinfoel Double Dragon is a very fine beer. Truth is, there's only one Dragon, which is some indication of the beer's strength. Denigrators refer to it as "Feeling Foul" but that's because they don't wear amethysts as part of their drinking rig.

My Gwent sources place this lab next to the Gypsy camp, just by two scrapyards. I hope the scrappies don't use electro-magnetic grabs, given Roger Coghill's concerns.:)

What a cheek!! I can't believe that some one posting on this type of a forum would stoop to such nastiness. If his lab is next to a gypsy camp and by two scrapyards then all credit to the guy, probably what makes an independent lab affordable. I would love to know where this guy lives - if his surroundings are like his personality then they must be very shabby. In need of a good clean out I would say. What a low tackle!!

That kind of remark - degrading gypsies and places aiming to clean up the environment - is not worthy of this forum and I am asking the moderator to remove the offensive post, and also all remarks insulting to people living in Pontypool. If you want a decent forum, then such rude behaviour should be discouraged: if it continues then I will myself consider your site as being beneath serious scientific attention, and will withdraw from it.

Pardon my confusion, but did I miss something?
Lab??
Gypsies?
Degrading remarks?
Low tackles?

Back to Roger- like I said, apologies for the mild humorous hijack- what was the purpose, if any of your original post? Do you have something specific you wanted to discuss?

It's my understanding that life, like all chemistry , is electrical. Moving electrons generate a magnetic field. So much is elementary. Sufficiently powerful magnetic fields make useful diagnostic tools in medicine. What have you in mind?

[pyr]Reported for "breaking the law". As I have no idea what law, if any, is being broken, I will take no action on this.[/pyr]

It got appealed to me, and I have to confess, I don't see where anything other than foolish joking around has occured. Roger, I wouldn't take offense, and I wouldn't take the joking seriously. But then, maybe there's a cultural jab in there we Americans don't get. At any rate, cultural jabs aren't against the rules, although we would like civil discourse.
Roger, why don't you continue with your discussion and ignore the "chatter".

So far Mr. Coghill is the only "visitor" who hasn't attacked skeptics and he has replied to questions.

I would be upset too if I were in his place but I am not an American and I do not enjoy the kindergarden atmosphere out of the kindergarden.

I have been on this board for two years plus and have reported a post to the mods once, when a poster was being deliberately abusive to a third party.
I find it strange that a new poster would take this action so early after his first appearance here, particularly as I can see no degrading remarks in any of the posts in the thread which match his criticisms.

There is a mild joke about jackmott's use of the term "grow smaller", started by Yaweh, kicked on by me and pounced on by Capeldodger. Each of us knows the other's style well and no offense was meant or taken. Roger , who does not, seems to have perceived an attack on himself, on Gypsies and on environmentalists.

I do not understand Lorri's response at all. I am not sure if it is aimed at me or Capeldodger.

I agree that the thread, which did not appear to be going anywhere, was mildly derailed by myself and others. I have already apologised for that.

I am left feeling I have missed something here. Some unrevealed agenda perhaps. I will not be posting here for some time. I will be interested to see where this goes.
