Merged Australian Politics / Australian election

Meanwhile, the Greens did a deal with Labor on environmental law reform. It looks pretty good, actually. The Greens got some very important concessions with regards to new oil and gas development. Here's what you need to know:

The tl;dr:

  1. The legislation will establish a national Environmental Protection Agency.
  2. It will empower the Environment Minister to establish national environmental standards.
  3. New projects must have an environmental "net gain" and those with "unacceptable impacts" will be refused.
  4. Ministerial discretion to exempt projects from environmental impact requirements cannot be applied to oil and gas development.
  5. New developments will have a streamlined 30-day approval process, which again cannot be applied to oil and gas development.
  6. Logging and land clearing loopholes will be closed.
  7. Environmental offset regulations will be changed - exactly what the impact of this will be remains to be seen.

More details at the link.

Also, Hanson did not wear the burkha correctly. It should come to the floor and completely enclosed the wearer from head to toe. Hanson's garment was short, and she strutted about extensively exposing her legs, looking more like she was under a parasol. Her ridiculousness level could not have been higher.

You know what'd stop Hansen pulling stunts like that? The rest of the Senate laughing at her idiocy.

That chart isn't very useful without the key to show the parties represented by each colour.
The colours are the ones you think they are - in other words, the same ones that have been used in every freaking election you've lived through. You know, the official colours of the parties?

Anyway, I gave you the link, which does include the key in case you somehow missed this obvious correlation.

Unless I missed my guess, it shows that the Libs are losing votes to One Nation but I don't see what is happening with the "Teal" votes.
It's only tracking the big four. It's not showing what's happening with Family First either.

No I don't and I'm pretty sure that international readers of this thread don't either. Don't blame us because you are too lazy to post a proper screen shot.

10.7% of the primary vote is a pretty big chunk to ignore.

I'm pretty sure there aren't all that many international readers of this thread. And those who do almost certainly already know, just like you do.

FYI on the same page I got the screenshot from, which I linked to, there's a second graph for the Two Party Preferred. That ignores rather a big chunk too, don't you think? And yet it's a key metric in every election. Also, the full poll data is available if you're genuinely curious and not just looking for things to complain about.

This is called the International Skeptics Forum for a reason. You don't get to hope that non-Australians will give this thread a miss.

So we can add preferential voting to the list of topics you know nothing about. (Hint: the preferences of splinter party voters can be quite influential on the result of an election).

Oh come on. When was the last time you saw a non-Australian post in this thread?

Hey, non-Australians! Can you post a "Hi!" if you're reading?

Well duh. Also, way to miss the point.
