Merged Australian Politics / Australian election

To be fair- the Libs have been doing pretty poorly after 'mr potatohead' tried to do a 'minitrump' at the last elections....
It's more a case of 'dropping down to One Nations levels of popularity', rather than Paulines lot actually getting more popular....

In a way its good- you got the Libs, the Nats, Hansens lot and Palmers lot all trying for the 'get the stupid nosebreathers' vote- if they ever stopped fighting, THEN we could have an issue....

In news that should shock nobody, it has been revealed that the US Ambassador was directly involved in the conspiracy to dismiss Gough Whitlam:

A phone call between the ambassador and Joh Bjelke-Petersen was heard by the operator, and it has been kept secret by the family until now. Joh was told to select a non-Labor replacement for a Senator who had died. And he did as he was told.

For those aware of the detail of the Dismissal, London was advising the GG to sack Whitlam after Labor lost the balance of power in the Senate.

It wasnt that long ago I was told 'thats all conspiracy nonsense' when I said the yanks were involved (hell it was obvious from day one)...

The Age is very thoroughly paywalled. Was London the name of the US Ambassador? Because if you're talking about the Crown, the Palace Letters made it quite clear that the Crown very specifically did not advise the GG to take action.

AI has been banned from a tech forum I was at, simply because it was wrong so often that it was considered safe to assume EVERY AI answer was wrong- ironically it not only 'sounds authoritative' to non techs, but often seems to 'disguise' where it IS wrong
Using AI is now an actual 'bannable' offence there now lol
Good.

But other letters from as early as July showed that Kerr had discussed, with the palace, the legal validity of his dismissing Whitlam for months before the decision.

Okay, my use of the word “advise” may not be strictly correct, but to imagine the palace had no role at all, is utterly naive.

You can examine the correspondence between the Queen and Kerr here https://www.naa.gov.au/explore-collection/kerr-palace-letters
Extract of letter dated 5/11/75 to Kerr on page 54.
The Queen is being informed but, of course, this does not mean that she has any wish to intervene, even if she had the constitutional power to do so. The crisis, as you say, has to be worked out in Australia.

Looking forward to see the forums views on the 1978 bombing at the Sydney Hilton (CHOGRM meeting).

Blamed on Ananda Marga at the time, with no evidence to support that.
