Split Thread A second impeachment

Does a counselor asking for bail for a rioter urge more rioting?

Yes.

LOL!!!!!

Graham is an idiot.

What was the supposed point to the question?

It was Graham's gotcha attempt, to portray Kamala Harris helping to raise bail money for some of the BLM protesters in Portland as an incitement to violence comparable to Trump's speech on Jan 6. Graham threatened to bring up this ridiculous whatabout over a week ago (Newsweek via MSN).

There is much truth in what you say if we are honest with ourselves. The last four years have exposed a lot of the ugliness, ignorance and stupidity that lies within this country. But I think the same is being exposed in other countries, too. We're seeing a resurgence in antisemitism, racism, bigotry, authoritarianism, and nationalism in Europe, too. I doubt Canada has been spared entirely, either.
Tribalism is certainly on the rise in Europe and elsewhere, but it's been advancing in the US longer. It's what Gingrich and Rove intended.

It wasn't really a question at all. It was a direct implication that Harris was inciting violence by supporting the legal option for bail for poor people who had been arrested during the BLM protests.

Kevin McCarthy called Trump on Jan. 6 during the riot. We now know more about it due to notes taken my Jamie Herrera Butler (R WA) who was briefed by McCarthy on Jan 10.

KMc called Trump to get him to call off the rioters. Trump claimed they were not his people, they were Antifa. KMc said "No, they aren't Antifa, they're you people".
After that
T: "Well Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are."
KMc: "who the F do you think you're talking to?"

Herrera Butler said:

"You have to look at what he did during the insurrection to confirm where his mind was at. hat line right there demonstrates to me that either he didn't care, which is impeachable, because you cannot allow an attack on your soil, or he wanted it to happen and was OK with it, which makes me so angry...we should never stand for that for any reason under any party flag. I'm trying really hard not to say the F-word."

Another GOP Member of Congress said familiar with the phone call said:

"This proves that the President knew...very early on....what the mob was doing, and he knew members were at risk and he refused to act...it's a violation of his oath to fail to come to defense of Congress and the Constitutional process immediately. This shows tha Trump knew what the rioters were doing, that he supported it...an that he facilitated it by failing to act."

The GOP senators have got to know this. But I bet they will still acquit. Cowards. Disgusting cowards.

I'd like to know why this wasn't general knowledge until the trial is almost over, or if so, why it wasn't brought up. I don't even know if it can be incorporated as evidence tomorrow before or during closing arguments.

Yet later on McCarthy went to Florida to "kiss Trump's ring." What the hell is going on?

Appealing to patriotism. I lost count how many times Van der Veen mention 'our country' after whipping off his glasses.

Every time, I wanted to yell "SUUUU-PER-MANNNN!"

No question. But here any type of intolerance is largely not treated as an asset in politics, business etc. It is usually rooted out and quickly dealt with by political and business leaders and those openly supporting intolerance tend to have rather short careers. There are no politicians who have become successful by coddling and catering to bigots.

Ridiculous, reaching whataboutisms have worked fine for them for four years. Why change now.

Which is to Canada's credit. I have no tolerance for Trump cultists or for those like Cruz or Graham who are not true Trump devotees but merely unethical, slimy, disgusting opportunists. I am truly embarrassed by and ashamed of them.

We will all now see the point of the impeachment. The DC Attorney General and perhaps the USA for DC will bring criminal charges against Trump. He will likely be convicted by a jury selected from the bluest voters in the country. This will humiliate and damage Senators in vulnerable seats in 2022. The outrage by the Trump base will ensure that retiring senators are replaced in primaries by Trump supporters and swing state senators will have to go all in on Trump to avoid primary challenges. The seven Republican house members from swing districts who voted for impeachment in the house will be ousted by unelectable Trump supporters, ensuring a Democratic majority in both houses.

True. It does say something about the GOP that the best defense they can muster for Trump is one a six-year-old child would come up with. A six-year-old can be taught to be ashamed of childish tactics, though- apparently not the GOP.

My speculative opinion is that the House Managers underestimated that the Defense would bring up something so blatantly dishonest as to pretend Trump didn't know what was taking place. I'm surprised the defense didn't say Trump was taking a bubble bath and no one disturbed him.

Not convinced. Bubba has a long history of falling for really friggin' dumb claims and attempted spins en masse, after all. Either way, the remarkable unpreparedness to handle the events of Jan 6 honestly do look like a setup... a setup to maximize the chances of the attempted coup's success.

That's my assessment as well so I can't figure out what setup Bubba is complaining about. The cultists planned to engage in violence and law enforcement was severely hampered in their ability to contain said violence.

I think that Bubba is reading other right wing people's social media posts, that are already deliberately incoherent so as to get through social media Qanon censors.

Bubba doesn't understand the incoherent claims either, but he still copies the contents here, to our forum, as he feels he needs to show us he has secret knowledge.
:)

Al Franken gives the closing argument he would give if he were the House Manager. I wish this is the argument they'd give. It's good. After all, supposedly the vote is already decided. Maybe this would be an excellent Hail Mary.

17 minutes all audio, visual is a still of Franken.

I suddenly like Elizabeth Warren after all.

Guardian clip of the Fight montage.

Warren has been awesome for a long time. Not perfect, of course - no one's perfect. She's the only one who I actually wanted to win in the primaries, either way.

I'm tired of the BS argument that if we impeach Trump then we're setting a precedent that ANY former government official can be impeached.

Just to poke at this - that's probably best regarded as a threat that they'll do that if they can, rather than an actual argument.

You're a bit more optimistic about the memory of the masses than I.

Likely, he's trying to convince himself in the usual CT way - poorly thought through nonsense that solves an immediate issue without any hint of critical thinking to check whether it actually makes objective sense or works without ridiculous consequences. That way, he can avoid reassessing his preferred assumptions in light of reality and admitting that he actually was fundamentally wrong about a lot of things, both of which can be tough things to do, especially for many of those who have motivation to fall for nonsense CTs in the first place.
