Republicans have never been better for the financial situtation of the voter. It was always fear that got them elected.

Economic growth? Going back to Franklin Roosevelt, the four presidents who logged the biggest growth in gross domestic product
were, in declining order, the Democrats Roosevelt, Kennedy, Johnson, and Clinton, according to a February New York Times infographic by David Leonhardt and Yaryna Serkez. Three of the four presidents who logged the smallest GDP growth were Republicans. (The exception was Harry Truman. The other three were George Bush père et fils and, in last place, Donald Trump.)

Job creation? The six presidents with the fastest job-growth rate (per Leonhardt and Serkez) were the Democrats Roosevelt, Johnson, Carter, Truman, Kennedy, and Clinton. The four presidents who
logged the slowest job-growth rate were all Republicans (Eisenhower; the two Bushes; and, again in last place, Trump, the only president in the past nine decades to lose more jobs than he created).

The deficit? Democrats are spendthrifts, right? Wrong. President Ronald Reagan inherited from Jimmy Carter a deficit of $78.9 billion, according to Politifact. When he left office, it was $152.6 billion. When his successor, President George H.W. Bush, left office, it was $255 billion.

To be fair, the Obama increase in median household income continued under Trump. But on an inflation-adjusted basis, it started falling about halfway through Trump’s final year in office.

Let’s Stop Treating Polls as Actual News Events

polls.... become news events unto themselves, generating reams of coverage and endless commentary. They’re not actually breaking news events, like, say, a train derailment, even if treated as such. They’re more creations of a media industrial complex that longs for easy data points, for things that feel like facts but are actually imprecise measuring mechanisms.

I remember how, just before Trump's inauguration, the US economy was in shambles, unemployed through the roof, deficit skyrocketing - but all that change the moment trump was sworn in ...
At least, that was what right-wing outlets and Trump told us.

What DID happen under Trump is indeed an explosion of the deficit, despite running on a platform to eliminate not just the deficit, but the entire debt.

Not sure if "amusing" is the term for people who keep on supporting someone like this.
 
i was looking forward to doing my taxes on a postcard. all i got was cuts that already expired. but i think that was after the healthcare plan and infrastructure week. must have ran out of sharpie.

I had a relative over visiting in 2018 who was a supporter of T****y. He openly admitted that T****y was bad for the country and that he only supported T****y because the tax cuts were good for his investments.

Pity you can't display thehonesty of my cousin, scrote that he is.
 
Reminder that Trump won 3 states by less thatn 1% and that the 2024 election is likely to be the same, one way or another. Except Trump 2024 is not Trump 2016. he has got more repetitive and annoying. For rallies the stand up material is the same, just new targets for his hate, judeges.

I got sent this by an American friend this weekend. Its a bit politically whimsical, but its overall sentiment is valid...

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE CONSERVATIVE

Joe gets up for work and fills his kettle with water to prepare his morning tea. The water is clean and safe because some tree-hugger fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swig, he takes his daily medication. His medicine is safe to take, because some stupid commie fought to ensure their safety, and that they work as advertised.

He prepares his bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some libtard fought for laws to regulate the meatpacking industry.

In his morning shower, Joe reaches for the shampoo. His bottle is labelled with each ingredient because some hippie crybaby fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist whackjob fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

Joe drives to work in his car. Its safe to drive because some meddling do-gooders fought for more safety features and standards.

Joe begins his workday. He has a good job with excellent pay, pension, paternity leave, paid holidays and sick pay because some union layabouts fought for these working standards.

Joe injures himself at work and has to go to hospital. He receives treatment fully paid for by his affiliated insurance provider because some radical left-wing liberals created the Affordable Care Act.

Joe gets home and relaxes as he watches Fox News on TV. The hosts never mention that the Conservatives have fought against and voted against every protection and benefit Joe enjoyed throughout his day, and they remind everyone that socialists are dangerous and are destroying the country.

Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government socialists ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

Joe finds it wonderful to live in such blissful ignorance?​

If you live in a state where you are allowed to, why not?

Assuming that the Democratic primary is locked up by Biden, voting for or against Biden in the primary probably won't make any difference. If that's the case, the primary where your vote might actually matter would be the Republican primary.
 
Er, Joe's insurance does need to pay for the work injury. The employer thru Worker's Compensation (very old communism) pays for that.

The opposition also has a vote and they can respond in kind by voting
for Dean Philips. You could get into a voting war between the two parties
and both Biden and Trump didn't get the nomination. Now you've entered
Donald Rumsfeld risky game of two unknownable knowns. Anythings possible.
Suppose Philips doesn't know anything about foreign relations and gets into
a nuclear war with China?


Oh, dear.

It appears someone else has the same curiosity with dark powers that I do...

Top Democratic donor gives $250k to support Nikki Haley

Dean Phillips doesn’t worry me. He won’t win but he would be fine even if he did somehow.

And trump supporters wouldn’t cross over to vote for him anyway because that would mean not being able to vote for trump. I can’t think of any reason not to vote for Haley if you can legally do it.

It's somewhat interesting that the Democrats now try to promote the few Republicans who are (relatively) sane. Christie, Haley, Romney and Cheney. Of course, all of them have a history of sucking up to Trump at some point or another and are now on some kind of redemption arc. Republicans (or Trump anyway) tend to try to promote those Democrats who seem most insane, from Marianne Williamson, RFK Jr, or those who would likely have no chance as far as they can tell - Bernie Sanders.

That said there probably was a time when Democrats tried the same trick and the world ended up with Trump.

I tend to think this is a realization that the Republicans know the crazier Democrats have no appeal, but Democrats know that the Republican base will go wild for the most insane choices in the GOP.
 
I see this morning the Beeb is gearing up for the election today, seeking opinions on what logo they should use for their coverage.

Under 12 months to go - it should be a lock that Biden wins, but I'm not seeing that at all.

We could still avoid Orange Hitler if one of them dies or is otherwise eliminated from the election, such as by conviction for a coup attempt. But presuming both stay in it, there are still things Biden could do.

An ad campaign simply playing Trump's own Hitleresque words would help. Not just saying he's like that; Democrats have been saying that about all Republicans at least since 1990 and people are used to the fact that it's always been lies before now. Also no "Let's be positive & hopeful" crap because nobody's buying it anymore. When there's only one thing you're really offering and one possible reason to vote for you, that one thing (not being Orange Hitler) needs to be what you keep reminding people of.

But more important than any ad campaign would be just doing his current job better. He was more popular when he was doing things people liked or even just putting in a token act of even feebly sort-of trying. But he hasn't done much of anything for a while, at least not things people like. His sinking popularity at the same time has not been a coincidence.
