All those undereducated, blue collar Trump supporters aren't counting on their Medicare/Social Security at all, are they?

What I don't get about tax cuts for the rich is why it's so piecemeal. You can only keep cutting over & over again if the previous cuts were small enough that there was still something left to cut next time. But there's no lower limit either, other than zero. So why not go all the way?

it's already below zero if you consider subsidies, regulatory capture, defacto monopolies and disproportionate use of common goods.

I'm sure that President Trump's supporters will insist that he was talking about eliminating waste and fraud from the entitlements system, not reducing payments to legitimate recipients. Of course the legitimate recipients are the MAGA crew whilst the waste and fraud is all down to other people, particularly those of colour.

They'll be in for an unpleasant surprise.

Once you get down to zero, you can never give another tax cut again.

In the late 70s the Australian government introduced tax indexation. They abandoned it in short order. The reason being that tax indexation was reducing the tax burden without any fan fare. It turns out that it is better politically to allow the tax burden to increase via bracket creep then when an election is due, adjust the tax scales and make a big noise about how they are "cutting our taxes".

After that they'll just switch from cutting taxes on the rich to giving them money. Negative taxes! After all, the rich have more expenses, so they need help.

The US gov already does that. Look at farm and oil company subsidies.

Then there is all that pharmaceutical money put into university research that is eventually taken by drug manufacturers willing to produce the discovered drugs.

This is nothing unusual. Until someone secures the nomination the RNC and the individual campaigns must maintain separate and often duplicative staffing. And be honest, how many non-Trump loyalists do you suppose there were at the RNC before this purge? Ronna McDaniel was about as sychophantic as she could be; she was only pushed out because the GOP has had three consecutive disappointing elections (2018,2020, and 2022).

That said, GOP donors are certain to be asking pointed questions before they open their checkbooks.

Well, I've started seeing ads for Biden, mostly on youtube. The main subject is abortion rights, and the other one was about Trump's desperate need for vengeance.

Yes, but it's never enough. If you give a plutocrat a million dollars they are wounded to the heart because you didn't give them a million and one dollars.

That’s why there will never be a single universal flat tax. That would basically tie legislators’ hands to either raising or lowering the rate. No deductions or credits to mess with. Doesn’t matter which party they’re in. They’ll never tie their own hands.

Both Biden and Trump today got enough delegates to become their respective party’s nominee.

Guess it wasn't really in doubt, but that’s the latest news at the moment.

Eta: not sure if it’s official about being the nominees, just the bit about the delegates.

Oh...do elucidate...

Trump trolled Kimmel and Jimmy swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker. Kimmel made a snide comment about being past prison time for Trump and the camera panned to the Hollywood elite Nazis applauding Kimmel's comment. It was a thing of beauty. What better way to align himself with the common people and voters that will matter more in November than the Hollywood Nazis.

That's not a very informed view of what's going on.

Trump would love to be respected by who you call Hollywood Nazis, and hates every reminder that they think he's not good enough for them.
Because of The Apprentice, Trump thinks he's a Hollywood Celebrity, and doesn't understand why no one else thinks so.
