Here's the schedule for UNCC:
FALL 2010
Academic Year Begins August 16, 2010
Payment Due Date */ Cancellation for non-payment August 18, 2010
Last day to cancel all classes with no charges * August 22, 2010
First day of classes August 23, 2010
Saturday classes begin August 28, 2010
Last day to submit grade replacement form * September 1, 2010
Last day to register, add, drop via the web * September 1, 2010 @ 11:59 PM

So she could be registered already. If not, she has a week to register. However, students who start classes a week late are not typically 4.0 scholars.

Thanks Jeff. This makes me want to ask a chicken/egg-type question.

We know from her own words that Anita is presently in Sweden awaiting receipt of a visa and presumably this will be a Student Visa similar to the one with which she was previously staying in the US. My question is "Which comes first - the granting of a Student Visa or acceptance by a recognised learning institution?"

Whatever the answer, it would seem to me that being in Sweden, without a visa and two weeks after the start of the semester is less than optimal.

An F-1 student visa-the standard student visa in the US-is contingent on acceptance by an American university that is allowed to issue a Form I-20. There are other requirements - the student must be able to communicate in English and show evidence that they can pay the school fees and support themselves during the course of study - but university acceptance is the primary requirement.

Hmm. If one were given to speculation, there's rather a lot that could be read into this situation.

I liked how she called us all "at-home internet-based amateur skeptics". As if her woo wouldn't have sunk without a ripple if not for the Internet.

My speculation here is not that juicy. I think her initial student visa expired as it normally would after four years (or whatever the term was). Because she changed majors and whatever else, it's taking her longer to graduate than she expected. She had to return to Sweden because her visa expired. Now, either some bureaucrat has dropped the ball or she's been so busy working, jetting to Las Vegas and trying to maintain a long distance relationship with her new skeptical boyfriend* that she dropped the ball when it came time to fill out all the forms properly for her visa.

I don't think UNCC would prevent her from coming back unless she were far more destructive than we have been led to believe. If she were that much trouble at school, I think we'd have heard more about it. What we've heard is bad, but I don't think it's bad enough for them to keep her from her final year in school.

In any case, it looks like this current semester is a complete loss to her. Her postings over at www.vof.se seem to indicate that she'll be in Sweden for a while. She's hoping to do more kidney tests there and some ghost hunting. That indicates that she does not believe she'll be leaving the country any time soon.

*Pure speculation that her new boyfriend is in the US and not Sweden. I still maintain that he can be seen in one of her TAM8 hallway videos. I don't know that he's featured, but when we find out who he is (and we will find out because she'll never be able to keep her mouth shut) we will find that he was there.

I don't know that it's ever been established that James Randi has ever made any comment, publicly or privately, about Ikonen. Someone using his name made such a comment in response to an article in her school newspaper. I've never heard any confirmation that it was actually him. I don't know that he mentioned her at TAM8. He was not there for her demostration. Unless he confirms that he wrote that comment in the school paper, I'm not ready to accept that he's done anything other than ignore her.

Obviously, he knew she was at TAM8. He obviously knew that she was doing her demonstration. I would love to know what all the internal politics were in setting that up. There's his next book.

Fair enough. Allow me to rephrase my comment. In the comment section of the article that appeared in her school newsletter, James Randi allegedly made a comment that dismissed Ikonen as an out and out fraud, one of many that he has encountered during his long career as a skeptic.

If the comment was authentic, then Ikonen's statement that only "at home, internet based amateur level skeptics" are critical of her is just eggsplat on her face. If the comment was authentic, he may have been typing it from home, he certainly was making a comment on the Internet, but Randi definitely can't be classified as an amateur level skeptic.
 
I think Anita is, supposedly, going to see a psychiatrist because she is desperately in need of an attention fix. I doubt that she will be allowed to record the session and if she doesn't record it she will be able to spin it to suit herself. Two years of this and she is still trying to convince someone/anyone that she has "something special". It doesn't matter how many tests or demonstrations she fails, she just keeps on going (sort of like the Energizer Bunny on meth). She craves the attention and she's not getting it in the quantity that she needs. She's yesterday's news, she's irrelevant.

She just might. According to her 'announcement', she'll go see a psychiatrist to prove something to the outside world.

She needs to realise that she should go for no one else but herself.
A decision to sincerely do just that, would be a solid achievement.

Well, it certainly sounds like him. Regardless, the IIG has roundly criticized her.
