Cont: Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla II

Speaking of Grok- I saw that after people caught wind of musk's 'thumb on the scale' concerning anything regarding him, people were having a ball with it....

I haven't studied dictatorships too much, but lately I just can't get over how... Childish and just plain weird this particular regime is? Like, rigging an artificial intelligence to uncritically sing the praises of the person in charge of its creation? That's... I don't even understand what goes on in the head of someone so childish, juvenile, and immature. I mean, I know there's been weird leaders and generals throughout even recent history, like that African dude who got his nickname for leading his troops into battle while butt naked, but I mean, it's just so consistent with this particular regime.

I guess it's because their leader of their cult is functionally still a toddler, and thus his immaturity is part of what they admire and aspire to?

But theirs fail more often than most.
Do they? SpaceX's failures are often highly publicised, but I didn't see anything in the news about this one. Not every failure makes the news.

They have a stated policy of pushing the envelope as far and as often as they can. If anything, I would expect that they would have a lot of failures, and that failure is built into their business plan.

I also wonder about this. I'm reminded of childhood dreams of glory. William Steig wrote book of cartoons once that was quite amusing, with such things illustrated - the ten year old fighter ace, and whatnot. Most of us outgrow it. But for those who don't I think it becomes a kind of addiction. Just as with a drug, praise and pandering become potentiated. I think of the oval office as a kind of metaphor. Every time you look, there's a new piece of silly gold. It long passed the point of absurdity but now it can't stop, and everyone who wants favor knows to bring another piece of gold to help the child at the desk realize his opulent dream. Once you get into that habit, the level of enough increases, and nothing is ever too much. Trump has to win every golf tournament. Kim Jung Il gets 11 holes in one in a game, Musk is the smartest man in the universe. You'd think that a history of stabbings, imprisonments, dethronings and desperate bunkers, not to mention just good old mortality, would resonate but it doesn't. The farm boy grabs a sword and bravely heads off to slay the dragon. This time, maybe this time, and then they'll understand!

New Glenn: Two attempts, two successful flights, one successful landing.
Starship hasn't reached orbit.

#1: Starship is the biggest and most powerful rocket in the history of rocketry. Turns out doing things at that scale is pretty damn hard.

#2: Like I said, SpaceX is deliberately pushing the envelope.

#3: The Falcon 9 has become a workhorse, so much so that we don't even notice when it pulls off a successful mission any more.

add doge to elon musks long list of scams/failures
The wind-down may be strategic. If DOGE evaporates, it moots the lawsuits that specifically name DOGE as a defendant, many of which are now approaching trial dates. That makes it harder to hold accountable those who did considerable damage under the auspices of DOGE.

And of course there is the conspiracy theory that DOGE was just a cover for Musk's grab of massive amounts of otherwise private and/or secret data held by the government, and the termination of all the investigations into Musk's business ventures. I'm sure Elon Musk doesn't mind being thought of as a failure for the cover story when he quite likely succeeded in the true aims of the project.

i’ll do you one better in saying that i’m quite certain he has a public humiliation fetish

Sometimes, yeah. But sometimes breaking something isn't a sign of failure.

Ok, but how many times has Starship ◊◊◊◊ the bed so far? It might be the most this and the most that, but until it's functional then it's not worth a damn thing. I get sick of seeing taxpayer money blowing up all while hearing SpaceX say they learned a lot from it. If it's my money blowing up then I expect all that ◊◊◊◊ to be publicly available. This is part of the problem I have with SpaceX, they seem to have no issues socializing their losses while lining their pockets.

That said, the damage done and the lives lost to this garbage are forever done.
Indeed, Elon Musk aside, the damage is done and is in many cases irreparable. Therefore there's no reason to keep the lights on at DOGE.

The analogy was to compare the federal executive to an aquarium full of fish. The Trump regime proposed to put in a boat motor and turn the whole thing into fish soup. When the matter went to court, the lower courts wisely ruled that Trump should be temporarily prevented from turning on the boat motor since the alternative was irreparable injury. Then the court could try the matters on their merits. The Supreme Court instead ruled on the shadow docket that it was an "irreparable injury" for Trump not to be able to make fish soup. So those temporary stays and injunctions were overruled and DOGE revved up the boat motor. The Supreme Court excuses its actions by saying it was only ruling on minor issues like stays and injunctions, not the matter itself. But of course the matter itself is now moot because you can't unsoup the fish.
