Trump's promised ICE raids have begun

Donald authorises troops to use "full force" to protect besieged ICE facilities in War ravaged Portland.
There is no war in Portland. Trump is insane and imagining things again.
“The number of necessary troops is zero, in Portland and any other American city. The president will not find lawlessness or violence here unless he plans to perpetrate it,” said Keith Wilson, the mayor of Portland.

It just occurred to me that Trump may not have realised the year is now 2025, not 2020. He is entering that dementia phase where they lose all track of time.
Just to quote myself, it appears that Fox (Not) News ran a story on Portland, and included their very biased video of riots from 2020. It would seem Trump has completely missed the dates and believes it is happening there now.

So now we know where he gets his "facts" from - a bunch of yellow press barons with rotten agendas, egged on by people like Miller and Bannon.

ETA. Yes, that happened.

Donald Trump says he is deploying troops to Portland, Oregon

Apparently misled by hyperbolic reporting from conservative outlets on a single small protest, president described peaceful city as ‘war ravaged’

“The number of necessary troops is zero,” Portland’s mayor, Keith Wilson, said. “I’ve been so deeply disappointed to see the footage from a half decade ago recycled,” he added, referring to a recent Fox News reported cited by Trump that misled viewers by wrongly presenting video from a 2020 protest in Portland as new.

I remember back in his first term when he would watch FOX and Friends and basically get both his inspiration and marching orders from them. Like, they'd say something and he would tweet out a reaction shortly thereafter. If they admonished him for something, his tweet would be him announcing he was changing course (without outright saying it, of course, he'd just pretend he'd never said anything to the contrary).

Not yet. Trump hasn't invaded yet.
Now is the time for Oregon (Wasington & California) to apply to join the Federation of Canada. None of those states were part of the original rebellion so King Charles won't hold it against you. Honestly who do you think you are safer with as head of state? Trump or C3R?

ETA of course Washington will have to change its name - American Columbia? South West Alberta? Cascadia? Tahoma?

Are you sure he's not sending soldiers into Poland?

I've said in the past that the US is so close to a civil war- and imho its getting even closer, with trump ramping up this 'war' on the blue states and sending in troops on false pretenses...

Its not as if its only trump though- if it was, then he would have been out already- his criminality and descent into senility have been evident ever since he first ran for politics (hell his criminal tendencies were known even here in Australia since the 1980's, when he was refused a casino licence because of his criminal associations...)

The entire GQP is right behind him- knowingly supporting a known criminal...
That 'should' have ended the entire party- the fact that it didn't didn't shows a major proportion of the US public in the worst possible light...

For a slightly different perspective: Putting it by percentage vs. percentage points brings the drop in turnout to 2.3 percent. Actually, that 65.3 percent in 2020 is the *highest* in 40 years if we stick to comparing apples to apples - that is, the percentage of the voting-eligible population who voted.

Before 1980, turnout tended to use a larger denominator - "voting age population" - which includes people ineligible to vote (such as felons whose civil rights have not been restored). If they had used voting-eligible population - a smaller denominator - reported turnout would have been a little higher. The 65.3 in a (sourced) Wikipedia chart is identical to census data, but the 63.8 in 2024 is an estimate from the University of Florida Elections Lab.

Is the drop "significant"? That depends on which states the drops were in. That drop in a noncompetitive state such as California doesn't affect anything. Drops in swing states such as Arizona would be critical. (theprestige is quite aware of this.) Meanwhile, Trump suggested that Musk manipulated the Pennsylvania vote ("he's very good with computers," roughly), while Musk handed out $1 million checks to select voters in swing states. This and other tricks are *fine* with conservative voters, as long as it's conservatives tinkering with computers, handing out bribes and doing mid-decade gerrymandering to pick up more seats in Congress.

If Democrats use similar tactics, conservative heads explode.

You might be right, but I got a feeling you never liked Americans much anyway, long before Trump.

"C3R" sounds like the name of a worthless gilded gay British robot. Which is 80% accurate for Charles III.

I don't understand Trump's hard-on for Comey and the so-called Russia hoax.

First, Comey's announcement that there might be more Clinton emails, a week before the election, is broadly thought to have helped Trump. I've never been sure what Trump's beef is with Comey. The two-page indictment isn't much help. Indictments usually have more substance.

Trump installed Lindsey Gallagher because he knew she would do what he wanted, no matter how weak the case. She'd been on the job 4 days, with a mandate to indict Comey that week. The old prosecutor was fired because he thought the case was very weak.

Second, Republican-led committees s have concluded that Russia 100 percent tried to meddle in our elections. Nobody seriously questions that. Whether it was to get a particular candidate elected is irrelevant in that context. That the effort was made should be alarming enough to take seriously.

That's a whole separate issue than whether Russia and the Trump campaign conspired to get Trump elected. Whether you think there was a solid case or not, *it's no hoax* that Russia was trying to interfere in many ways and continues to do so.

Meanwhile at r/conservative folks are convinced that every TikTok post they want to believe is absolutely genuine. Videos purported to show pregnant women taking Tylenol. Never mind that they can't tell a) whether a human is involved at all; b) whether that human was a pregnant woman and whether what they were taking was actually Tylenol. It's all proof of the "radical left" to them.

They don't question the authenticity; they don't think that deeply, as far as I can tell.

Kash Patel and Pam Bondi go from talking about all the evidence against Epstein, only for Patel to declare that there's "no credible information" that girls/women were ever trafficked to anyone other than Epstein himself. This requires dismissing statements from alleged victims - and conservatives lap it up.

Oh, so Ghislaine Maxwell recruited girls for Epstein alone: That still makes her a trafficker and a pimp. Justice talks with her and she's moved to a nicer, minimum-security prison. Which might be OK if she had information to offer, but she didn't. Trump just said, go easy on my friend. I expect him to pardon her soon.
