Interesting.

He's already proven he has what it takes to lose to Mamdani.
In a party primary. I suppose one of the drawbacks of a primary system is that you never really get to see whether a party primary's fringe candidate is a general election's centrist darling. Cuomo not being Molniya might actually be an advantage for him, in the general.

Cuomo now says whoever is losing the race for mayor a week or two before the election should drop out so that Democrat vote will be United. It's a fair policy but of course it's not enforceable.

Ballots are printed and ready to go months before the election I don't think they could be changed that quickly.

Gives Cuomo a very good argument to stay in the race; he's the only one who can save the city. Pardon me while I spew chunks.
Somehow I doubt Mamdani being elected is going to destroy the city. NYC is resilient and will be fine. Anything you find problematic wouldn't pass through the city council. He's not gonna be a mini-Trump issuing mayoral orders that change the landscape. A handful of his plans may be worked through but that's about it.

Meanwhile the fact that 'moderates' have rallied around a sex-pest is likely to make *me* spew chunks. This leaves only the corrupt guy sucking up to Trump and the gang leader.

Has Cuomo ever been found guilty of a crime? Civily liable?

We're going with MAGA standards, now?
No, American standards. Innocent until proven guilty is a Hallmark of our justice system and democracy.

AFAIAC, without a criminal conviction or at least a civil court liability or even an out of court settlement, the man is innocent.

That's nice. But this is a political party, not a court of law. If I have a group and I find a sex pest is among the members I don't need a lawsuit or conviction to toss them out. If you are an employer and you find multiple people accusing your employee of unwanted sexual advances you don't need a trial to fire them if your investigation finds the accusations credible.

The New York Attorney General says 11 women made credible accusations of unwanted sexual advances and Cuomo resigned the Governorship as a result.

The Democratic Party does a decent job of getting rid of sex pests in its ranks - at least once revealed - and getting rid of them. I've already told the story of my own state representative on this forum.

Inviting the same sex pest back to run for mayor undermines almost all of that work. And for what? To stop a social democrat from winning a job nobody has advanced from since the 19th century?

He's not a Social Democrat, he's a Socialist. Huge difference.

A party primary that represents the bulk of NYC voters, and during which he blew an enormous lead because he's such a god-awful candidate. A general election in which he's currently polling ten points behind Mamdani.

I mean, things could change, but I do have to wonder where people think this surge of Cuomo support is going to come from.

I expect we will be deluged with negative ads about the box he checked on some application several years ago, or perhaps Bloomberg's fears that he will bankrupt the city, attempting to kill turnout.

Yeah, but that already happened during the primary (minus the non-story of the Columbia application, of course), and it didn't work. We had higher than usual turnout, instead.
