Science magazine this week reported the latest development in a growing pattern of political disruption to American science: the National Science Foundation is eliminating all 37 of its research divisions, restructuring its grant-making process, laying off staff and canceling over $1 billion in already-awarded grants. The changes follow the resignation of Director Sethuraman Panchanathan and coincide with a proposed 55% cut to the agency’s budget.
This is not reform. It is a dismantling.

As soon as this evening, NSF is also expected to send layoff notices to an unspecified number of its 1700-member staff. The remaining staff and programs will be assigned to one of the eight, smaller directorates. Staff will receive a memo on Friday “with details to be finalized by the end of the fiscal year,” sources tell Science. The agency is also expected to issue another round of notices tomorrow terminating grants that have already been awarded, sources say. In the past 3 weeks, the agency has pulled the plug on almost 1400 grants worth more than $1 billion.
I'm sure they can find ways to cover that up.On May 1st Dan Garisto of Nature reported, "Cuts to NSF spending this year could be a prelude to a drastically reduced budget next year. Science has reported that US President Donald Trump will request a $4-billion budget for the agency in fiscal year 2026, a 55% reduction from what Congress appropriated for 2025. Similarly, according to documents leaked to the media, the proposed 2026 budget request for the National Institutes of Health calls for a 44% cut to the agency’s budget, which was $47 billion in 2025...A report last month by economists at American University in Washington DC estimates that a 50% reduction in federal science funding
would reduce the US gross domestic product by approximately 7.6%.1"
This nonsense about babies being challenged with too many antigens is just so stupid. The baby is born out of a sterile environment then gets pushed through a usually ◊◊◊◊ stained vagina, thrust on to a non-sterile breast. Its immune system has to deal with millions of novel microbes each expressing thousands of antigens.Citation?
We're so ◊◊◊◊◊◊.
American scientists really need to consider the deteriorating freedom of their nation and employment prospects versus the idea of continuing their research in a supportive environment in another country. Their efforts to support the US people are already being strangled and actively stopped. The only outcome if they stay and fight is potential detention or even deportation anyway, with loss of their research. Their great work needs to continue where it can be allowed flourish, and that is no longer in the USA.NPR reported, "Trump celebrated the widespread firings of government workers on April 29, at a rally marking his first hundred days in office. "We are stopping their gravy train, ending their power trip, and telling thousands of corrupt, incompetent and unnecessary deep state bureaucrats, you're fired. Get the hell out of here," he said..."It's a five-alarm fire," says Dr. Anne Schuchat, a former acting director at CDC who retired in 2021 after working at the agency for 33 years. "The kinds of changes that are happening are going to take decades to recover from, and many people will die because of these interruptions.""
RFK Jr talking about the need for doctors to know how to treat measles for those who are unvaccinated.
“Only very sick kids should die from measles.”
No. They shouldn’t. That was the point of the vaccine. We eradicated the virus so children didn’t die.
Sick & disabled kids are not expendable!
Clear and present danger.![]()
