The Libertarians over at reason<dot>com ran an article arguing that the Democrats forgot to notice that some of the minority groups that they relied on had started to move in a more politically conservative direction. And of course then there's the other things the Democrats have chosen to stand for like this where the Democrats stand for the latter...

But there is the sort of social liberalism that is summed up by the phrase live and let live, and there is the sort summed up by a middle manager briskly strolling into a room, dropping a six-pound tome on the table, and announcing: Here are the new rules. We will email you the updates each Tuesday.

https://reason.com/2024/11/08/how-the-gop-became-a-more-multicultural-party/

To the article writers credit, they point out the rightward shift was not because of anything the Republicans did, it was in spite of what they did.

I don't think what the Democrats did wrong is as important as what Trump supporters.

They voted for a man who spent the last 4 years lying and whining about a "rigged and stolen election".
They voted for a man who instigated a violent riot and attack on our Capitol.
They voted for a man who tried to overturn a legitimate election because he couldn't admit he lost.
They voted for a man who spews racist and bigoted crap.
They voted for a man who demonizes and dehumanizes immigrants.
They voted for a man who is a proven pathological liar.
They voted for a man who is an extreme and malignant narcissist.
They voted for a man who is a 34X convicted felon.
They voted for a man who is a serial adulterer and has the moral compass of a tom cat.
They voted for a man who grifted millions from unsuspecting people with his 'businesses'.
They voted for a man whose personal grievances take precedence over everything.
They voted for a man who is so petty and insecure that he cannot ever admit being wrong about anything.
They voted for a man who admires and aspires to be an authoritarian dictator.
They voted for a man whose own former staff, cabinet members, generals, and Joint Chiefs of Staff have declared 'unfit' for the office.

Disgusting.

It's not dishonest at all. 9th month abortions are abortions of convenience. Seriously, there's absolutely no reason other than convenience for a 9th month abortion. Even in the case of medical emergencies, induced delivery or c-section at that point is just as easy as an abortion.

But 9th month abortions is the Democrat's position. They don't accept any restrictions. They explicitly want abortions of convenience.
Ive searched far and wide for doctors that perform late abortions. None of them say anything about the 36th week.

It appears to be a dishonest red herring.

What's soo bad about today's economy?

We have low inflation, low unemployment, good monthly job growth.
The price of eggs was apparently too high.

That doesn't change that I'm paying 80% more for my Acme brand coffee since 2020, and that many of my building materials have similarly doubled or more in cost. My rates can't double in the same time frame, of course.

...and high housing/rent costs due to high demand and low supply. My peak electric bills have gone from about $350 in peak summer months of 2020 to between $650 and $750 for the last 2 years and counting. If I decide to eat out, that Mcdonalds' meal that used to cost 7 bucks now costs and easy 11 to 13. My grocery costs have gone up on average around 30% since 2020.... it's a bit hard to ignore.

The supply chain problems are gone, price of gas is back to normal, why hasn't Acme coffee reduced their prices?

You want the government to FORCE corporations to lower their prices? Sounds like Communism.

I haven't said anything about making the government force anything on corporations. Some of the issues such as with housing and food inflation are side effects of covid era stimulus handouts and money printing, and indirectly by a lack of interest in dealing with managing the border with illegal immigration. Perhaps if the incumbent party made strides to address them, some - not necessarily all - of these economic detriments could have been minimized.

There never were legitimate supply chain problems, in serious amounts anyway. There was a huge pile of bull ◊◊◊◊ about it to justify markups, though.

My cheap ass acme coffee just went up another dollarfor a two pound bag. Don't ask me why. For the same reason everything else skyrocketed and largely stayed there.

Inflation being "under control" only means we reset the bar of "normal" to a much higher leveland call it fine. We're not comparing prices to the "good old days" of a quarter century ago; the jack up started only 48 months back.

The migrant crisis has literally nothing to do with covid-era inflation. You're literally just repeating Trump's nonsensical propaganda.

Inflation is 2.4%, which is completely normal. You seem to want the govt to force companies to lower their prices. Or somehow increase the value of the dollar.

How they gonna do dat?

As for supply chair problems, there were no constant lockdown at Chinese factories? Seems you have a selectively short memory.

I never said as much, I said that Covid Era Stimulus checks flooded the economy with money and contributed to inflation by literally pitting too much money against too few goods.

Immigration policy and sanctuary cities contributed to the housing crisis. You got 20 million illegal immigrants flooding in since 2020. You need a place to put all of those people. Guess what happens when you add that demand in addition to the domestic population demand, against the available supply that can't keep up?

If you're only response to me is that I'm spouting Trumpist propaganda, then it's no wonder the Democrats lost so one sidedly this cycle. If you don't want to discuss reality, then discussing this issue with you is a waste of time.

No idea what you are talking about. I don't care what the inflation rate is now; I care about uncorrected runaway inflation. Prices didn't come back down. They've stayed artificially high.

Nothing to do with anything I was talking about. Most building products are domestic. Lumber might come from as far away as Canada, but the cabinetry is built in the Carolinas, roofing and siding produced here, etc. I ain't talking about your latest iPhone.

So apparently none of the Dem elite wanted Harris for the nominee. But after they pushed Biden out the door, he did a Leeroy Jenkins and promptly endorsed Harris. This stymied the plan for an open primary. I'm rapidly becoming a believer that Biden wanted to sabotage the Dems and Harris for backstabbing him. He and Jill probably voted for the Orange Man.

Pelosi: If Biden exited sooner, ‘it would have been different’

“Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race,” Pelosi told The New York Times. “The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.”
“And because the president endorsed Kamala Harris immediately, that really made it almost impossible to have a primary at that time,” Pelosi stated.

Victor Davis Hanson says the two happiest Americans are
2. Joe Biden.
1. Kamala Harris.

Enigmatic but true.
Harris was so totally out of her depth she can only be epically relieved at no longer being asked questions.
