Ed This forum will cease to exist on 15 August 2021

Well, as far as I can tell, Icerat has done the forum one significant favor, which was keeping it (just barely) alive.

Nope.

He could have sold the forum before it even migrated to his server. It's not a favour when you turn down cash for something. Far from spending money, he could have banked some.

Interesting that within a few hours of me creating this thread the Domain was renewed.

Was it this thread that told the owners of the need to do so?

Quite possibly.

Interesting that it hadn't happened in previous years.

I'm trusting you to have it diarised for August next year.

I have a yearly reminder set up for the 14th, when I saw your thread I sent an "early" email to icerat. Don't know if that was what triggered the renewal, icerat or one of his employees could also have a yearly reminder set up.

Thanks. What happened in previous years when the forum did die for a day or so?

Odd cannot see anything recent on this page https://www.facebook.com/internationalskeptics

Then you're not looking very hard.

Time for renewal.

Look harder.
Depends if you're looking for a new post or a new comment on an old one.

Ok, you're correct that a comment from 2 days ago was buried between a comment from 2 years ago and a comment from 1 year ago on a post from 3 years ago.

If wading that far in amongst years old posts and comments to find a recent comment buried in there somewhere is not looking very hard in your opinion, then fine, whatever. It's not like Facebook lets us sort by newest comment.

No, it was a post on the Facebook group.
Really?

When you log on to this forum on 15 August 2021 or in 4 days 14 hours 18 minutes from the time of this post you will find the forum is not operational. The reason is that the owners have not paid for the URL. With luck, it will be back in a day or two.

Thanks, both of you. I wanted to say the same things, but you said them better than me.

I am now patting myself on the back. I have stopped this forum from being down for a day or so. At least for another year or so.

And you get reminders from the domain overlords.

Given that icerate hasn't been in the forum (or at least, not while signed in) since April, I'm going to pick that what happens on the JREF Farcebook page never gets his attention.

It's one of the deader pages on the internet, with rare posts. I don't believe for a split second that had anything to do with it. When I looked at icerat's own FB it looked pretty dead as well.

Probably right. The page in question, however, is the International Skeptics page, run by icerat.

Sure. Did you notice he responded to the comment?

(I'm not saying the message on the Facebook page was responsible for the renewal, it may well have already been in hand. just pointing out that it did happen, and icerat saw it.)
