You snipped my second sentence which said: "nobody believed they were actually 3/5ths of a person".
I addressed it, though.

Let's revisit this topic in a generation and see.
Finally!
Confirmation that trans women are not women. Good work, LNER!
No. Let's accept that the current expert opinion and guidance is the only appropriate framework for making policy decisions (including decisions made by rail operators wrt nonbinary people).
It's frankly ludicrous to take a position along the lines of "I (not an expert) simply don't believe that the World's experts are correct in their current assessment, and I predict that the World's experts will "come to their senses" within a generation; therefore (seemingly) it's entirely reasonable to state that no official body in 2021 should be "pandering" to the "whims" of nonbinary people"

All this anguish over seeing others included while maintaining such incredulity at those being discluded having anything to get upset about...
Oh, it's a ********.
What's ludicrous is your assumption that the world's experts are even remotely unanimous on this issue. Even if it were to be proven to be a real condition, you'd have to be a real **** to be offended at not being included in "ladies and gentlemen".
(I wonder if, in your world, the rail operator should have tweeted back something like "Thank you for your message, Laurence. However, our view is that you must be a real **** to have been offended at not being included in "ladies and gentlemen". We suggest you snap out of your stupid, self-obsessed portrayal of yourself as the "victim" here. And, just so you know, we'll not be doing anything other than using the term "ladies and gentlemen" in our on-train announcements. If you don't like that, you're welcome to either walk or piss off.")

The world would be a happier place if people could derive self-esteem through accomplishment rather than through being the top victim in the oppression pyramid.
Huh? How have you drawn that particular inference?
(We're talking about nonbinary people here; and specifically those nonbinary people who prefer not to be gendered at all - but instead wish to be addressed as "they/them")

Naysayers must admit that "ladies and gentlemen" is an archaic saying, really.
About time it was replaced by something less old and mouldy.

In 1787, many American Congressmen questioned the premise that black slaves were "people" for governmental purposes. They eventually decided that it would be okay to consider them three-fifths of a person.

I've taken to saying "Hi friends!""Attention Comrades!"
