My position is that it's possible, and even likely, that she was being influenced and manipulated by supporters of ISIS, who took advantage of her inexperience to get her to do things a more mature and independent adult would not have chosen to do.

I'm not saying we know for sure this happened, but I do think it's reasonable to assume it probably did, and take that into account when judging the enormity of her crimes, and the severity of her punishment.
