The Biden Presidency

The word "conservative" is being misused. The Trumpers are radical extremists who have nothing in common with Ronald Reagan or John McCain. I can only imagine what McCain would have been saying about Trump's attempt at a coup.

There is a third kind: Reactionaries.

Conservatives and progressives have their places in a democracy. Reactionaries not so much.

The thing that really pisses me off about those members of the public grieving the loss of jobs in the fossil fuels industries is they fail to understand that alternative energy industries are ready to literally explode with jobs.

https://www.edf.org/energy/clean-en...ewable energy,respectively, from 2016 to 2017.

"The renewable energy sector employs 777,000 people, roughly the same as the U.S. telecommunications industry. ... The most rapid renewable energy job growth has come from the solar and wind sectors, which rose by 24.5 percent and 16 percent, respectively, from 2016 to 2017."

Solar and wind energy jobs outnumber coal and gas jobs in 30 states, including the District of Columbia.

The coal industry, which has been declining, now employs 160,000 workers, less than a quarter as many Americans as the renewable energy industry.

This needs to be embraced now, while there are still fossil fuels available because if we wait until they become high priced & low supply, it will be too late, there wont be the cheap energy needed to carry on the rapid development of renewables.

Peope are naturally afraid of change. I get being afraid. As ny father use to say. It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job, it's a depression when you do. The fact is a million people that have been drilling, refining and transporting fossil fuels will eventually lose their jobs. But 2 million new jobs will replace them.

The fossil fuel companies are using these people to prop up their ailing business.

But the move to alternative fuels not only will increase the number of jobs in the energy sector, it will result in more prosperity everywhere.

The reason being is it is going to be much cheaper in the long run. There are fixed costs in the fossil fuel industry that will always be there and don't apply with alternative energy. Those cost efficiencies will be passed on to the consumers.

I really laugh at Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again". How? By clinging to some imagined ideas of what it was like in the pasr? A history that was really only better for a very tiny few?

The reality is the past wasn't as good as people think it was. It was better in some ways for sure but much much worse in others. If we really want to make America Great we must embrace reality and the future that lies ahead instead of trying to return to some nostalgic fantasy of the past.

Here's what I mean by the first link.

For the second link many of you glossed over the sentence "revoking President Trump’s executive order on “Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping".
Explaining why alternative energy sources won't cut it would take more time than I have to post.

Indeed. Actually, you could write a whole book, and still don't make it.

I’d say the really big international “fossil fuel” companies are ahead of USA politicians, they know what changes have happened and what is happening now. They are all changing their companies for a new future.

East Coast ports in the UK have had an explosion in jobs related to offshore wind farms.

Hull, Teesport, Tyne and Blythe have seen a huge increase in traffic and jobs, both manufacturing and support.
A new £90 million development of former steel making sites and riverfront on the Tees is about to start and the companies supporting offshore oil production have moved in to offshore wind.

Even Whitby is redeveloping the old Endeavour Wharf. It hasn't had any commercial shipping for decades and the wharf itself and cargo areas behind it have been a car park for at least 20.
One of the wind support companies is going to use it for crew boats and support craft.
It is bringing some much needed 'none seasonal' work to the town

A lot of the companies involved in the offshore wind projects are already involved in offshore oil.
They saw the writing on the wall years ago, they are diversifying.

Even if there was no climate change it would still be necessary to move away from finite sources of energy to renewable sources of energy.
There shouldn't even be a debate on the matter, we should just be doing it.

I can see it already:
“Under the orders of president Biden, all citizens are to hand over their firearms to their local democrat representative. They will protect us, there are no communists here. Do not worry.”

Raise your hand if you’re more concerned about losing your Constitutional rights than you are about Covid

More deaths in January than any other month. It is all solely Joe Biden’s fault because he is the president.
Am I doing this right?

Not hardly.

I liked Lucy Lawless's reply to another recent bit of utter nonsense from him.

‘Xena’ Star Lucy Lawless Smacks Down Kevin Sorbo’s Right-Wing Conspiracy Theory
She went full “Warrior Princess” on her former co-star.

No, Peanut. They are not Patriots. They are your flying monkeys, homegrown terrorists, QAnon actors. They are the douchebags that go out and do the evil bidding of people like you who like to wind them up like toys and let them do their worst. #keepingYourFilthyHandsclean #enabler

And yeah, Sorbo's been an idiotic nut for quite a while.

Conservatism looks to the past; progressivism looks to the future.
Conservatism fears change; progressivism embraces change.
I regard conservative-radical and progressive-reactionary as two different axes (the third being liberal-prescriptive). Progressives believe that change can be for the better : reactionaries believe progress gets us further from a perfect "natural order" that once existed, and will only accept change back to it. Conservatives favour a measured pace of change : radicals want to blow it all up and start again. One can have conservative progressives and radical reactionaries. The current GOP is an example of the latter and the Dems an example of the latter.

I was talking to a guy who knows business and entrepreneurship expert I know was talking about this type of thing. He said, if you asked farmers in the early 20th century what they wanted, they would have asked for a better and improved horse.

Instead, they got a tractor.

No, you ******* moron, you're not even doing it wrong.

Those who think alternative energy sources won't replace almost all fossil fuels want immediate results. Immediate gratification is the expectation of the immature, the unimaginative, the unintelligent, the ignorant, the impatient, and those too lazy to bother doing any research.

Well, sure! The last president said that the main reason not to have mail-in ballots was that on the morning after the election we wouldn't know who got elected. And sure enough, we didn't know who won for, what? Four whole days?

Well, sure! The last president said that the main reason not to have mail-in ballots was that on the morning after the election we wouldn't know who got elected. And sure enough, we didn't know who won for, what? Four whole days?

So? BTW, We've had mail in ballots for 150 years. In 2000, we didn't know who won for a month. There were elections throughout the 19th century which took weeks.

Actually we knew who won in two days. Really, within a day. The networks just wouldn't call it for four. Also, the reason we didn't know for a few days had little reason to do with mail in ballots but had more to do with how certain states handle the counting.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I should have put in a sarcasm emoji, I guess. When the former president was sputtering and gibbering down here in Georgia, if I remember correctly, he was saying, "And these mail, you know, the boxes, and the mail-in ballots, and they won't have them counted, and you won't know for days, weeks, who won, and so much there's so much potential for tampering, you just don't know, we should continue with the way this country's always done, you wake up and they announce who won the presidency."

I looked at my dear wife and said, "You know that's a load of ********, don't you? Up until the telegraph, they had no way to communicate voter counts for months, sometimes, and even after that it was a lag for days except in landslides."

She said, "I know. You keep telling me."
