The Biden Presidency

The Dems will put a resolution on the floor condemning Green and denying her all committee assignments. The GOP members will have to vote on that resolution, a vote they adamantly don't want to have. If they vote to protect Green, the 2022 campaign ads will write themselves. If they vote to condemn her, Trump will write the ads. Lose-lose.

I think CNN just said it’s a secret ballot, where Representatives don’t have to publicly acknowledge their vote one way or the other. That would certainly free up any Republicans with consciences to vote their consciences. Assuming such unicorns still exist, of course.

I hope to watch any debates on the matter this afternoon.

The House GOP has just embraced Green and all her nuttiness. That is going to hurt hem with the swing and surburban voters..the very ones they need to win back.
Ah yes, the old "nothing of any consequence will happen but the voters will remember this!" manoeuvre that Democrats love so well. The next two years of smug gridlock are going to be such fun.
I agree... simply assuming "voters will remember" probably won't be very effective.

What the democrats need to do is work on their negative advertising... be prepared to run ads like:
- Green making some of the more nuttier statements, then with a voice-over saying "Your republican congressman thinks this is fine".

Works even better if you can add: "We sent you $1400 and other goodies, and your Republican congress(wo)man voted against it."

It's early days, but the first signs from the Biden administration and the Democrats in Congress is that they learned the lessons from 2009, and wont let Republicans hammer them with the deficit.
(If this wasn't a Skeptics forum, I would touch wood now.)

The secret ballot was just in the Republican conference, all by themselves. The bill the Dems are bringing to the floor is a separate thing and will not be a secret ballot.

Don't be silly. It's (((George Soros))) who is funding the Rittenhouse assassins. They plan to use sharks with laser beams attached to their heads. (The same lasers that started the California fires.)

Oh? Space sharks with laser beams attached to their heads? That is quite impressive, in and of itself.

They really don't have secret votes per se involving all members. (Caucuses are informal and have their own rules) There are 4 different kinds of votes. The first two are not recorded. But they aren't secret. Those are voice votes and division votes. But if 20 percent of the committee request the Yeas and Nays or a Recorded vote, then anonymity is out the window.

I'm listening to Biden's state dept foreign policy speech right now and I cannot express strongly enough just how ******* wonderful it is to once again listen to a US president that actually knows what he's talking about. I damn near have a tear rolling down my cheek because I'm so bloody chuffed right now.

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the hills are alive with the sound of music....

We don't have a thread on Fox so I'm posting this here because it discusses Fox's organization which will directly affect the Biden presidency. Here are a few snippets from a very long New Yorker article:

It's not a lightening bolt of news for any of us, but the article clearly shows how we got to this point in the news business.

From the article:
“The genius was seeing that there’s an attraction to fear-based, anger-based politics that has to do with class and race.”

Ailes invented programming, Levin argues, “that confirmed all your worst instincts—Fox News’ fundamental business model is driving fear.”

I've always said that conservativism is fundamentally fear based while progressivism is fundamentally hope based.

Conservatism looks to the past; progressivism looks to the future.
Conservatism fears change; progressivism embraces change.

These are very broad generalisms but basically true.

I said the same thing to my husband. It's wonderful to see a president act like a president and not wondering what god-awful stupid thing he was going to say or do next.

And yet I think we do need both voices--if raised in good faith. For every great seeming idea, it's probably ideal to have to defend it against someone with reservations, who is concerned about unintended consequences. We need that "Hey wait a minute..." as much as we need the "I've got an idea..."

The problem is the balance is off and it ISN'T in good faith.

Yeah, at one time even on this board we had conservatives that came off as thoughtful. Then again, given their current actions I'm not so sure if they ever really were, or only appeared that way compared to the other conservatives here like 16.5, elf grinder, or logger.
