You mean in addition to the BBC article cited in the OP.

The Washington Post and the NYT among others have also picked up the story, including the part about the girlfriend being charged with second degree manslaughter (among other things). With statement's from the Sheriff and stuff like that.

Not sure how much more verification you need.

I expect that the charges filed are a matter of public record. You might even be able to look them up on-line. Lot's of Sheriff's offices have web sites these days. Maybe Norman County's does.
