Yogic flying

I'm actually kinda pissed at Doug because in that clip it just seems like he's trying to recruit people into his magic cult.... is it just me? lol

I used to be in a cult and actually more whacked out and kooky than Doug, yeah take heart bros, you can make it back from that far.

That's so sad. :( So he basically bought into the woo then (if he was appearing in commercials for them and he stopped receiving medical treatment for liver cancer on the Mahareshi's advice). Of course, the liver cancer probably would have gotten him anyway, but it's still a shame. I guess being a stage magician doesn't necessarily mean you will be a skeptic like Randi or Penn & Teller.

I reluctantly lump Cris Angel in with the good guys too. He called out someone for doing a dumb psychic bit on some magician reality show thing a few years ago.
 
It occasionally surprises people to learn that I am a trained teacher of Transcendental Meditation.

I left the TM movement just about the time that the sidhi program was introduced. I wanted to learn to talk to animals, although walking through walls sounded pretty cool, too. Then I thought ... now hang on just a minute ...

Rumour has it most of their political donations went to the Maharishi. Supposedly they were going to build a Maharishi-based theme park near Niagara Falls. Sadly, Doug died before they could break ground.

Not to mention (according to this documentary) that it only seems to work when Boston's "More Than a Feeling" is playing. Talk about silliness ("Hitch a Ride" would have been more appropriate)!!

 
There must be an explanation why levitation skills failed to catch on. Closing ones eyes while air borne is not very practical and accidents must have been a common occurrence. Tree climbing skills replaced the accident prone yogic levitation. It is less awkward, safer and humans are better suited for it given our primate past.

Anyone else sometimes have dreams where you can fly? I like those.

I wonder if that's how they got the idea. If only you could remember how to do that after you wake up. ;)

QFT. Although I never thought they could fly or any such thing, their pictures in which they all appeared to be calmly levitating were pretty bad ass.

Well, not flying like Superman all that much. However, having done some acrobatics in my youth. My "flying", in dreams, tends to be more like the Flying Graysons. Much lighter on my feet and more coordinated, most times, than I was doing it awake. The landings don't stick as much, due to the former, and often proceeds to some other execution (no 'Grayson' pun intended) in the dream, due to the latter. While I do experience the other type of flying from time to time, it generally does tend more to wake me up, unfortunately.
