I was discussing the implications and interpretation of the poll you cited.
That's all.
Political preference will always be a relative measure, and so a reference point must be chosen. Since thaiboxerken made the claim that most people [Americans, presumably] are liberal, I think the most obvious reference point to use is his. From what I understand of his politics, I think his claim is way off-base.
Since the poll Ziggurat linked asked people to self-identify, the reference point is not obvious. It's likely that people are using either well-known politicians as a reference, or perhaps even the mainstream media and the kind of stories, spin, and commentary that are seen on TV. If so, that would mean that most Americans are to the right of what is perceived to be the mainstream on TV. That feels about right to me (no pun intended).
